''Hyperspace'', also known as ''Gremloids'', is a 1984 3D film, 3D Science fiction film, science fiction comedy film starring Chris Elliott and Paula Poundstone, written and directed by Todd Durham and filmed in Shelby, North Carolina. This was the sixth and final 3-D film produced by the Owensby Studios in the 1980s. The film was an early Parody film, parody of the 1977 space opera film, ''Star Wars (film), Star Wars''. It introduced Lord Buckethead, the visage of whom later became a satirical perennial candidate at British elections. Plot A ''Star Wars''-style text crawl explains how a resistance force led by Princess Serina has stolen vital radio transmissions from an evil Galactic Alliance. The Darth Vader-like villain, Lord Buckethead (named only in the closing credits), pursues Serina, but, due to an error in navigation, instead lands on Earth. Lord Buckethead
Lord Buckethead is a satirical political candidate who has stood in four British general elections since 1987, portrayed by several individuals. He poses as an intergalactic villain similar to the '' Star Wars'' character Darth Vader. Lord Buckethead was created by the American filmmaker Todd Durham for his 1984 science fiction film ''Hyperspace''. Without authorisation, the British video distributor Mike Lee adopted Lord Buckethead to stand in the 1987 UK general election and again in the 1992 general election. The character went unused until the comedian Jonathan Harvey stood as Lord Buckethead in the 2017 general election; his televised appearance standing next to prime minister Theresa May went viral, drawing media coverage and an online following. Todd Durham
Todd Durham is an American filmmaker, comedy writer, and novelist, best known as the creator of the concept for the ''Hotel Transylvania'' film franchise and as the creator of Lord Buckethead. Durham's works, including over forty screenplays and books, frequently combine fantasy storylines with character comedy. Education and career Durham studied comedy writing at USC under brothers Danny Simon and Neil Simon. Based on a half-hour 35mm film that he wrote and directed, a North Carolina movie studio signed Todd Durham to a three-picture feature deal.
