The Gris Gris were an American four-piece psychedelic rock band from Oakland, California via Houston, Texas originally. History The Gris Gris first signed with Birdman Records in 2003 after Garret Goddard of the band The Cuts, gave a burned CD of Greg Ashley's first solo record Medicine Fuck Dream to the owner of Birdman Records, David Katznelson. Birdman then published Ashley's solo album, ''Medicine Fuck Dream'', in 2003 and Gris Gris' debut self-titled album the following year. The band released three albums together to reasonably positive reviews. Lead-singer Greg Ashley also released eight solo albums, ''Medicine Fuck Dream'', ''Painted Garden'', ''Requiem Mass and Other Experiments'', ''Another Generation Of Slaves'', ''Greg Ashley & The Western Playboys'', ''Death Of A Ladies' Man'', ''Pictures Of Saint Paul Street'' and, ''Fiction Is Non-Fiction''. Birdman Records is an independent record label based in South San Francisco, California, that was founded in 2000 by David Katznelson, former A&R vice president of Warner Bros. Records. History Birdman Records is the flagship label of the Birdman Recording Group, which includes Sepia Tone Records, Tornado Records, and Tariff Records. The label was founded in 2000 after the departure of David Katznelson from Warner Bros. Records. The Cuts
The Cuts were a rock band from Oakland, California. The Cuts were formed by Carlos Palacios, Andy Jordan and Eric Johnson in 1998. Johnson left the band and Palacios, Jordan, Carson Bell, Elizabeth Dotzler and Garrett Goddard solidified this initial lineup. After winning a talent contest in 1999, the Cuts released their ''Heart Attack 7'' on Lookout Records"Probably the last good record that graced the Lookout label".
