Arthur Greenup
Arthur Edward Greenup (11 July 1902 – 3 August 1980) was a trade unionist and politician in New South Wales, Australia. Early life Born in Sydney, he became a shop assistant at the age of 14. He was an organiser and eventually the President of the Shop Assistants' Union. Political career In 1938 he was elected an alderman for the Municipality of Newtown, serving until the council was abolished in 1948. He served as Mayor of Newtown for 2 years, from December 1941 until December 1943. Under the ''Local Government (Areas) Act 1948'', Newtown became a ward of Sydney City Council and Greenup was elected one of four aldermen, serving until 1 December 1950. In June 1950 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Newtown-Annandale, representing the Labor Party. Christopher Greenup
Christopher Greenup (c. 1750 – April 27, 1818) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative and the third Governor of Kentucky. Little is known about his early life; the first reliable records about him are documents recording his service in the Revolutionary War where he served as a lieutenant in the Continental Army and a colonel in the Virginia militia. After his service in the war, Greenup helped settle the trans- Appalachian regions of Virginia. He became involved in politics, and played an active role in three of the ten statehood conventions that secured the separation of Kentucky from Virginia in 1792. He became one of the state's first representatives, and served in the Kentucky General Assembly before being elected governor in a race where, due to his immense popularity, he ran unopposed. Mary Courthope English (22 March 1789 – 30 September 1846), also commonly remembered as ''Mary Ballard'', ''Mary Greenup'' and the ''Belle of Bogota'', was an Anglo-Colombian adventurer, landowner, trade representative, farmer and businesswoman in Colombia. Her personality and connections gave her financial and political agency in Colombia and Britain. She was at the heart of British relations with newly formed Colombia in its first decade of independence in the 1820s, and a leading social and cultural figure 1822–1826 in the Colombian capital, where she became known as the Belle of Bogotá. Her letters provide intersectional social and economic perspectives on the early history of Colombia. Between 1828 and 1846 she successfully ran a cacao plantation, even though she was, as a woman, legally unable to do so at the time.
