Greenly Island (South Australia)
Greenly Island is an island in the Australian state of South Australia located in the Great Australian Bight about west-south-west of Point Whidbey on Eyre Peninsula. The island is uninhabited by humans and provides a haven for marine and terrestrial wildlife. The island and its intertidal zone constitute the Greenly Island Conservation Park. Its adjacent waters are occasionally visited by fishermen targeting yellowtail kingfish. Nomenclature Greenly Island was named for Sir Isaac Coffin’s fiancée, Elizabeth Browne Greenly of Titley Court, by the British explorer Matthew Flinders on 16 February 1802. Environment Greenly Island is a large granite dome with steep sides plunging vertically into deep water, split by two large crevasses which effectively break the island into three blocks. Greenly Island Conservation Park
Greenly Island Conservation Park is a protected area associated with Greenly Island (South Australia), Greenly Island located off the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia about west of Coffin Bay, South Australia, Coffin Bay. It was declared in 1972 under the ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'' ‘to protect the island’s delicate ecology and Australian Sea-lion and New Zealand Fur-seal haul-out areas’ and continuing protected area status for the island which was first declared in 1919. The conservation park is classified as an International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN IUCN protected area categories#Category Ia — Strict Nature Reserve, Category Ia protected area. Greenly Island ( French, ''Île Greenly'') is an island in Blanc-Sablon, Quebec, Canada, near the border of Newfoundland and Labrador, in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence at the southwestern end of Strait of Belle Isle. The rocky surface of Greenly Island has a thin cover of herbaceous vegetation. A fishing settlement and lighthouse are on the island. Migratory Bird Sanctuary With Aux Perroquets Island it forms the Baie de Brador Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
