Greensboro, Georgia
Greensboro is a town in and the county seat of Greene County, Georgia, United States. Its population was 3,648 as of the 2020 census. The city is located approximately halfway between Atlanta and Augusta on Interstate 20. History Greensboro was founded circa 1780; in 1787, it was designated seat of the newly formed Greene County. It was incorporated as a town in 1803 and as a city in 1855. The city was named for Major General Nathanael Greene, commander of the rebel American forces at the Battle of Guilford Court House on March 15, 1781. Greene County is a county located in the east central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,915. The county seat is Greensboro. The county was created on February 3, 1786, and is named for Nathanael Greene, an American Revolutionary War major general. Scull Shoals, Georgia
Scull Shoals is a former rapids and community on the Oconee River in Greene County, Georgia. It is an example of sedimentation due to unsustainable agricultural practices. Although the rapids and community are buried in silt, some remains of buildings are still visible. A nearby prehistoric earthworks and an area used for forestry research also bear the name "Scull Shoals". All of these features are in Oconee National Forest. Scull Shoals (geographical feature) Scull Shoals was a rapids on the Oconee River. The rapids are no longer visible, having been buried in silt. In the Southeastern Piedmont, the term "shoals" is often used to describe a stretch of a river where rocks impede boat traffic. Siloam is a town in Greene County, Georgia, United States. The population was 282 at the 2010 census, down from 331 in 2000. History Siloam was originally called "Smyrna", and under the latter name permanent settlement was first made in the 1840s. A post office called Siloam was established in 1871. Lake Oconee Academy
Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) is a K–12 charter school in the Greene County School District in Greensboro, Georgia, United States. The school opened in 2007. LOA's school colors are white, gold, and blue. For the 2016–2017 school year, enrollment was 815 students in pre-kindergarten through 11th grade. History Lake Oconee Academy opened in 2007, operating within Lakeside Baptist Church, until the expansion of the new and current location on Carey Station Road in Greensboro, Georgia. In 2011, the new location was announced and a grade level was added to the growing list. The school continually added a grade until the graduating class of 2018 became the very first graduating class from Lake Oconee Academy. Since the expansion, the school has been advocating for further growth, with additions including a new high school and new gymnasium.
