Green Enterprise District
The Green Enterprise District is a regeneration project of Boris Johnson, then the Mayor of London in east London, England, with a stated aim to create a low-carbon economy region in Greater London. It coincides with the Lower Lea Valley and London Riverside sections of the Thames Gateway, which corresponds to parts of the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham and Tower Hamlets. The flagship project is The Crystal (in planning known as the Siemens Pavilion) at Royal Victoria Dock, which is built on land owned by the London Development Agency and Newham London Borough Council and opened in 2012. The Crystal
City Hall, in the London Borough of Newham in east London, is the headquarters of the Greater London Authority (GLA), the regional government for Greater London. It replaced the previous City Hall, in Southwark in 2022. The building opened in 2012 and was previously an exhibition centre for sustainable architecture, known as The Crystal. At the time it opened, it was the first building in the world to reach the highest sustainable award level (see LEED and BREEAM). It was bought by the GLA in 2019 for the docklands redevelopment project. The building is situated next to the redeveloped Royal Victoria Dock in Canning Town. The northern terminus of the London cable car, and the Royal Victoria station, the Docklands Light Railway and Custom House railway station on the Elizabeth Line are within walking distance. Royal Docks
Royal Docks is an area and a ward in the London Borough of Newham in the London Docklands in East London, England. The area is named after three docks – the Royal Albert Dock, the Royal Victoria Dock and the King George V Dock. They are more correctly called the Royal Group of Docks to distinguish them from the Royal Dockyards, Royal being due to their naming after members of the royal family rather than Crown ownership. The three docks collectively formed the largest enclosed docks in the world, with a water area of nearly and an overall estate of . Royal Victoria Dock
The Royal Victoria Dock is the largest of three docks in the Royal Docks of east London, now part of the redeveloped Docklands. History Although, the structure was in place in the year 1850, it was opened in 1855, on a previously uninhabited area of the Plaistow Marshes. It was the first of the Royal Docks and the first London dock to be designed specifically to accommodate large steam ships. It was also the first to use hydraulic power to operate its machinery and the first to be connected to the national railway network, via the Eastern Counties and Thames Junction Railway section of what is now the North London line.
