Green Dragon (film)
''Green Dragon'' is a 2001 American drama film directed by Timothy Linh Bui and starring Patrick Swayze, Forest Whitaker and Duong Don. Plot The film follows the experience of Vietnamese refugees in the United States immediately following the Fall of Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War. Tai Tran (Duong) has been appointed the camp translator by Gunnery Sgt. Jim Lance (Swayze). He has arrived with his sister's two young children. Their mother is believed to have been lost in the rush to leave Vietnam. Despite the despair of leaving Vietnam and having to live in an unfamiliar United States, many of the occupants make adjustments. Minh (Nguyen) is silent and solitary until he meets Addie (Whitaker), the camp's cook. They embark on a friendship to the point where Minh is drawn out of his shell. Timothy Linh Bui
Timothy Linh Bui (b. Saigon, South Vietnam, April 13, 1970) is a Vietnamese-born American filmmaker, film producer, and screenwriter. He directed '' Green Dragon'', and co-wrote and produced '' Three Seasons''. Early life Bui was born in Saigon, South Vietnam, and came to the United States with his family as a refugee of the Vietnam War in 1975, leaving Vietnam approximately one week before the Fall of Saigon. He grew up in Sunnyvale, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. His parents held a video store where he watched "thousands" of movies and shot amateur action short films in his parents' backyard. Bui initially moved to Los Angeles to study in business school, but quickly dropped out to join a film school. He is a graduate of Los Angeles film school, Columbia College Hollywood (CCH). Dave Kehr
David Kehr (born 1953) is an American museum curator and film critic. For many years a critic at the ''Chicago Reader'' and the ''Chicago Tribune,'' he later wrote a weekly column for ''The New York Times'' on DVD releases. He later became a curator within the department of film at the Museum of Modern Art. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is the major West Coast base of the United States Marine Corps and is one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the United States. Kathleen Luong (November 13, 1974 – October 28, 2020) was a Vietnamese American actress and model. She is usually credited as Katie Luong. Luong was born in Saigon, South Vietnam. In 1979 her family left Vietnam, and sailed to Malaysia. They immigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Orange County, CA where Katie was raised. Luong's first work in television was during her high school years when she was offered a job to appear in a Vietnamese karaoke video. ''Three Seasons'' (Vietnamese title: ''Ba Mùa'') is a 1999 American film shot in Vietnam about the past, present, and future of Ho Chi Minh City in the early days of Doi Moi. It is a poetic film that tries to paint a picture of the urban culture undergoing westernization. The movie takes place in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon. As the characters try to come to terms with the invasion of capitalism, neon signs, grand 5-star hotels, and Coca-Cola signs, their paths begin to merge.
