Greece–Iran Relations
Greek-Iranian relations are foreign relations between Greece and Iran. The two countries have had relations for thousands of years, and share great historical and cultural ties. Relations have been largely strained though. Greece has an embassy in Tehran, and Iran is represented by its embassy in Athens. Greece was one of the few countries to support the assassination of Qasem Soleimani. In response Iran threatened Greece with retaliation if it allows the United States to use their military bases in case of a conflict between the United States and Iran. Greece has been consistently among the countries with the most unfavorable views of Iran. In 2014 73% of Greeks expressed negative views of Iran, while only 19% viewed it favorably. Pontus ( grc-gre, Πόντος ) was a Hellenistic kingdom centered in the historical region of Pontus and ruled by the Mithridatic dynasty (of Persian origin), which possibly may have been directly related to Darius the Great of the Achaemenid dynasty. Greek Orthodox Church Of Saint Mary, Tehran
The Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Mary, also known as the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation of the Mother of God, is located in Tehran, Iran. Inaugurated in 1951, it was founded to serve the once-vibrant Greek community of Tehran, which by the 1960s and 1970s, prior to the Islamic Revolution (1979), numbered 3,000 people.
