Greece In The Eurovision Song Contest 2004
Greece competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, held at the Abdi İpekçi Arena in Istanbul, Turkey. The Greek broadcaster Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) internally selected Sakis Rouvas with the song "Shake It", written by Nikos Terzis and Nektarios Tyrakis, to represent the nation. Prior to Rouvas' selection, the broadcaster had organised a public selection process entitled ''Eurostar'', consisting of live semi-final heats, leading to a three-participant national final to select their entrant. While the event did take place and Apostolos Psichramis was selected as the Greek entrant, the song selection portion did not materialize after the Rouvas announcement and Psichramis instead joined Rouvas as a backing vocalist. Sakis Rouvas
Anastasios "Sakis" Rouvas ( el, Αναστάσιος "Σάκης" Ρουβάς, ; born 5 January 1972), also known mononymously as Sakis, is a Greek singer, film and television actor, businessman and former pole vaulter and model. Born in Corfu, he won medals on the national athletics team during the 1980s. Rouvas began a musical career in 1991 as one of Greece's first dance-pop performers. His tenor vocals, complex choreography, costumes, and technological advancements have been credited with transforming music videos and live performances. Artemis Gounaki (Greek Άρτεμις Γουνάκη; born 7 April 1967 in Munich) is a Greek-German singer, vocal coach, songwriter, composer, and arranger who has done much of her work in Greek. Gounaki's father was born on the Greek island of Crete. Artemis Gounaki is a vocal coach and has participated in various Popstars seasons in German, Greek and Swiss television such as on RTL II and ProSieben. "Never Let You Go" is a song recorded by Greek singer Mando, written by herself and Teri Siganos, and produced by Johnny Jam. It is best known as the entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, held in Riga. Miami Sound Machine was an American band of Latin-influenced music that had featured the vocals of Cuban-born recording artist Gloria Estefan (née Fajardo). Established in 1975 by Emilio Estefan Jr., the band was originally known as the Miami Latin Boys before becoming the Miami Sound Machine in 1977. The band had a number of albums and a string of hit singles until 1989. Antique (band)
Antique is a Greek singing duo consisting of Helena Paparizou (; born 1982) and Nikos Panagiotidis (; born 1978), originating from Sweden and combining Greek popular music and lyrics with a Nordic dance-pop beat. Both Paparizou and Panagiotidis were born and raised in Sweden by Greek parents. They were the first ever to be nominated for a Swedish Grammis in the category modern dance with a Greek song. Maria-Elpida (Elina) Konstantopoulou ( el, Ελίνα Κωνσταντοπούλου; born 11 November 1970) is a Greek singer. She represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 1995. Biography Konstantopoulou was born in Athens and studied music and singing in the National Conservatory of Athens. Right after that she started to work as a professional singer at night clubs. In 1993, she was introduced to Nikos Terzis, who was at the time a young and fresh yet successful composer. They started to work together and Nikos composed three songs for her. She immediately signed for a music contract and her first album was out to the stores in 1994. Though a rookie, Elina had the summer hit of Greece in that year.
