Greece Davis Cup Team
The Greece men's national tennis team represents Greece in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Hellenic Tennis Federation. Greece currently compete in Europe Zone Group III. They have never competed in the World Group, but reached the European Zone quarterfinals three times. 1927 Davis Cup
The 1927 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 22nd edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. 21 teams entered the Europe Zone, while 4 entered the America Zone. Yugoslavia and Greece competed for the first time, while Germany returned to the competition for the first time since 1914. France defeated Japan in the Inter-Zonal play-off. The French defeated the United States, capturing their first championship, and ending the USA's 6-year run. The final was played at the Germantown Cricket Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States on 8–10 September. The Greece Denmark Billie Jean King Cup team represents Greece in Denmark Billie Jean King Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Hellenic Tennis Federation. They currently compete in the Europe/Africa Zone of Group I. History Greece competed in its first Fed Cup in 1968. Their best result was reaching the round of 16 in 1977 and 1984. Their current team is: Maria Sakkari, Valentini Grammatikopoulou, Eleni Kordolaimi, Despina Papamichail and Emmanouela Antonakis. George Kalovelonis
George Kalovelonis (Greek: Γεώργιος Καλοβελώνης; born 23 August 1959) is a former tennis player from Greece, who represented his native country as a lucky loser at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. There he was defeated in the first round by fellow lucky loser Bong-Soo Kim from South Korea. Vasilis Mazarakis
Vasilis Mazarakis ( el, Βασίλης Μαζαράκης, link=no; born 9 February 1980) is a former professional tennis player from Greece. Career Mazarakis teamed up with Eleni Daniilidou to represent Greece in the 2002 Hopman Cup, but they lost the qualification play-off to Italy. He did however compete for his country at the 2004 Athens Olympics, in the men's doubles, with Konstantinos Economidis. The pair lost in the opening round to Czechs Martin Damm and Cyril Suk. He never entered the main draw of a Grand Slam. The biggest ATP tournament that he participated in was the 2006 Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, a Masters Series event. Anastasios ("Tasos") Bavelas (Greek: Αναστάσιος ("Τάσος") Μπαβέλας; born 27 February 1968 in Athens, Attica) is a male former tennis player from Greece.
