''Greazee Soul'' is an album by Billy Preston which was released by Soul City Records in the UK in 1969. It is a re-release of his debut album, ''16 Yr. Old Soul'', which was released by Derby Records in June 1963. All tracks produced by J.W. Alexander and Fred Smith. A CD version was released in 2013 by ABKCO ABKCO Music & Records, Inc. (Allen & Betty Klein Company) is a major American independent record label, music publisher, and film and video production company. It owns and/or administers the rights to music by Sam Cooke, the Rolling Stones, the A ... and Real Gone Music (RGM-0195). The CD contains two bonus tracks: "Sweet Thing" and "Win Your Love for Me." Billy Preston
William Everett Preston (September 2, 1946 – June 6, 2006) was an American keyboardist, singer and songwriter whose work encompassed R&B, rock, soul, funk, and gospel. Preston was a top session keyboardist in the 1960s, during which he backed artists such as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, the Everly Brothers, Reverend James Cleveland, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. He gained attention as a solo artist with hit singles such as " That's the Way God Planned It", the Grammy-winning " Outa-Space", "Will It Go Round in Circles", "Space Race", " Nothing from Nothing", and "With You I'm Born Again". Additionally, Preston co-wrote "You Are So Beautiful", which became a #5 hit for Joe Cocker. Preston is the only non-Beatle musician to be given a credit on a Beatles recording at the band's request; the group's 1969 single "Get Back" was credited as "The Beatles with Billy Preston". Soul City Records (British Label)
Soul City was a British soul independent record label run by Dave Godin, David Nathan and Robert Blackmore, from a record shop of the same name in London. It is not to be confused with the US record label of the same name, run by the singer Johnny Rivers. Its first release was Don Gardener & Dee Dee Ford's "Don't You Worry" in March 1969. The label released a further 18 singles, the biggest hit being Gene Chandler's "Nothing Can Stop Me" which reached Number 41 in the UK Singles Chart. Soul City records were initially distributed by Island Records and then Philips Records. The releases were extremely popular with fans of Northern Soul and Motown music. In the 2000s the name and label design was used by another company to issue Northern Soul records. This company had no connection to the Dave Godin label. Derby Records
Derby Records was an independent record label founded by Larry Newton in 1949. The label's logo featured a Derby hat. First headquartered in New York City, it moved to Los Angeles shortly before going out of business in 1964. The label offered selections in various styles of pop music of the era, including jazz, rhythm and blues, and Western swing. Derby recording artists included singer Mel Carter, saxophonist Freddie Mitchell, singer and session artist Billy Preston, and Vann "Piano Man" Walls. Singer Jaye P. Morgan made her recording debut for Derby in 1950. Sunny Gale had a hit for Derby in 1952 with "Wheel of Fortune", which reached No. 13 and sold c. 50,000 copies.
