The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, commonly known as the GHMC is the civic body that oversees Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the local government for the cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is one of the List of municipal corporations in India, largest municipal corporations in India with a population of 7.9 million and an area of 650 km². History Hyderabad Municipal Board and Chaderghat Municipal Board In 1869, Municipal administration was first introduced for the city of Hyderabad. The city of Hyderabad was divided into four and the suburbs of Chaderghat were divided into five divisions. Hyderabad State () was a princely state located in the south-central Deccan region of India with its capital at the city of Hyderabad. It is now divided into the present-day state of Telangana, the Kalyana-Karnataka region of Karnataka, and the Marathwada region of Maharashtra in India. Alwal is a major locality in Secunderabad city, and a suburb of Hyderabad. Earlier, Alwal was a part of Malkajgiri Mandal but in 2006, Alwal Municipality was merged into Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Malkajgiri also known as Mallikarjuna Giri (Anicent Name) is a suburb of Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
