Great Lakes Junior Hockey League
The Great Lakes Junior Hockey League (GLJHL) was an American inline hockey league. Sanctioned by the AAU, the league is based in the Great Lakes region of the Midwestern United States. From 2008 until 2012, the league was a USA Hockey-sanctioned junior ice hockey league. It elected to leave USA Hockey and switch to inline in the summer of 2012. History The GLJHL joined USA Hockey for the 2008–09 season as a Tier III Junior C league. Before the season began, the Erie Lakers folded without playing any games. The league sent two teams, the Illinois Frontenacs and Chicago Huskies, to the 2009 USA Hockey Tier-III Junior Nationals. The teams competed in different divisions of the Junior C competition amongst six other teams and met in the semifinals. Inline Hockey
Roller inline hockey, or inline hockey is a variant of hockey played on a hard, smooth surface, with players using inline skates to move and ice hockey sticks to shoot a hard, plastic puck into their opponent's goal to score points. The sport is a very fast-paced and free-flowing game and is considered a contact sport, but body checking is prohibited. There are five players including the goalkeeper from each team on the rink at a time, while teams normally consist of 16 players. There are professional leagues, one of which is the National Roller Hockey League (NRHL). While it is not a contact sport, there are exceptions, i.e. the NRHL involves fighting. Unlike ice hockey, there are no blue lines or defensive zones in roller hockey. This means that, according to most rule codes, there are no offsides or icings that can occur during game play. Chicago Hitmen
The Chicago Hitmen were a Junior A Tier II ice hockey team based out of the Chicago region. NAHL team history The Chicago Hitmen played in the North American Hockey League from 2010 to 2012. The team first played in the 1,000-seat West Meadows Ice Arena in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. On June 4, 2010, the team announced that Steve Pronger was signed as head coach, coming to the Hitmen after serving as the head coach of the Chicago Blaze of the AAHL. Pronger was replaced prior to the 2011–12 season by Brent Agrusa. The team also relocated to the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois on a five-year lease. During the 2011–12 season, the Hitmen were reportedly locked out of the Fox Valley Ice Arena due to unpaid bills. The team and arena management came to short agreement to finish out the season but when the season was complete, the arena took the Hitmen owner ship to court over $100,000 in disputed charges.
