Great Falls Electrics
The Great Falls Electrics were a minor league baseball team that operated out of Great Falls, Montana. The team was formed in 1911 as part of the old Union Association league. They also played in the Northwestern League from 1916 to 1917. The team disbanded at that time and then was reformed as part of the Pioneer League in 1948. They became an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1952 and remained with the Dodgers through 1963. The team was briefly called the Great Falls Dodgers during the 1957 season and the Great Falls Selectrics in 1949–1950. In 1969, the team now known as the Great Falls Voyagers began play as the Great Falls Giants and they have remained active under different names since. Pioneer League (baseball)
The Pioneer League is an independent baseball league that operates in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. Its teams are not directly affiliated with Major League Baseball (MLB). It is designated as an MLB Partner League. From 1939 to 2020, the Pioneer League was affiliated with Minor League Baseball and its teams were affiliated with MLB teams. It operated as a Class C league from 1939 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1962. It was elevated to Class A for 1963 and was a Rookie-level league from 1964 to 2020. Northwestern League
The Northwestern League was a sports league that operated in the Central United States during the early years of professional baseball for five seasons: 1879, 1883–1884, and 1886–1887. After the 1887 season, the league was replaced by the Western Association. A second Northwestern League, located in the Pacific Northwest, formed in 1905. Spider Jorgensen
John Donald "Spider" Jorgensen (November 3, 1919 – November 6, 2003) was a third baseman in Major League Baseball who played from 1947 through 1951 for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1947–50) and New York Giants (1950–51). Jorgensen made his MLB debut for the Dodgers on April 15, 1947, the same day teammate Jackie Robinson broke the professional baseball color line. Born in Folsom, California, Jorgensen graduated from Folsom High School in 1936 and attended Sacramento City College from 1937 to 1938. His nickname, Spider, originated from his time at Folsom High School, according to ''Baseball Digest'' writer Phil Elderkin. Elderkin wrote in 1998 that Jorgensen wore a pair of black shorts with a vertical orange stripe on the sides while playing basketball, which prompted a teacher to tell the students that Jorgensen reminded him of a black widow spider he killed in a woodshed. Robert Brandon Davis (September 10, 1927 – June 12, 2005) was an American professional baseball player, manager, coach and longtime scout who spent 52 years in the game. In his playing days, the outfielder appeared in 67 games in Major League Baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the and seasons. Stan Wasiak
Stanley Wasiak (April 18, 1920 – November 20, 1992) was an American manager in minor league baseball who holds the records for most games managed (4,844), most victories (2,530) and most defeats (2,314). A native of Chicago, Wasiak was a second baseman and catcher in his playing days (1940–41; 1946–59); his career was interrupted by four years of service in the United States Army during World War II. In 1950, he was named playing manager of the Valdosta, Georgia, ''Dodgers'' of the Class D Georgia–Florida League. He led the team to a second-place, 81–56 record – one half game behind the Albany, Georgia, ''Cardinals.'' Wasiak's Valdosta team came back in 1951 to win the league pennant by five games. Louis Joseph Rochelli (January 11, 1919 – October 23, 1992) was a Major League Baseball second baseman who appeared in five games for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1944. The 25-year-old rookie was a native of Staunton, Illinois. Rochelli is one of many ballplayers who only appeared in the major leagues during World War II.
