Great Britain At The 2011 World Championships In Athletics
The Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (often referred to as ''Great Britain'') competed at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics from 27 August - 4 September 2011. Team selection UK Athletics announced a team of 67 athletes on August 9 in preparation for the competition. Team GB wwas represented by defending world champions Phillips Idowu and Jessica Ennis in the triple jump and the heptathlon respectively, as well as Lisa Dobriskey and Jenny Meadows who won silver and bronze medals at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, 2009 World Championships respectively. Selected athletes had achieved at least one of the competition's A or B 2009 World Championships in Athletics qualification standards, qualifying standards. Montell Douglas
Montell Marcelle Douglas (born 24 January 1986) is a British sportswoman. Originally a sprinter and former British record holder for the 100 metres at 11.05 seconds. In 2016, she took up bobsleigh and became part of the Great Britain women's two-woman bobsleigh team the following year. She competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Athletics career Douglas made her first senior major championship appearance at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Although she was knocked out in the semi-finals, she set a new 60 metres personal best of 7.28 seconds. The Women's 4 × 100 metres relay event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on 4 September. Runners from the United States had provided the fastest times before the competition, but bad baton exchanges had seen their teams disqualified at both the 2008 Olympics and the 2009 World Championships. The Americans and Jamaica, the defending world relay champions, were seen as the primary contenders for the title. Luke Lennon-Ford (born 5 May 1989) is a British born sprinter competing for Ireland who specialises in the 400 metres. He is coached by Linford Christie. Prior to 2017, Lennon-Ford ran for his birthplace, Great Britain At the 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships he won bronze in the 400 metres and gold in the 4 x 400 metres relay. Richard Buck
Richard Thomas Buck (born 14 November 1986 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire) is a former British sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres event. He is from York, and trains in Loughborough. Buck's current club is City of York A.C. (formerly Nestlé York A.C). Previously, he had an 18-month spell at Scarborough A.C. He has been trained by his grandfather, Geoff Barraclough, and is now coached by Nick Dakin. Career After competing in basketball and high jump at Lady Lumley's School, Pickering, Buck took up sprinting at the age of 15. He quickly took to the sport, and was the fastest 400 m sprinter in his age group after two years. The Men's 4 × 400 metres relay event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on 1 and 2 September. Thursday and Friday. This is a change in schedule from previous years when all the relays were at the end of the program. This might necessitate a change in strategy to allow for team members involved in other events. This was the fastest qualifying round in the history of the World Championships. All eight qualifying teams were faster than the fastest qualifier two years before. All but final qualifier Kenya were faster than the Bronze medal team at that championship. Daniel Talbot (athlete)
Danny Talbot (born 1 May 1991) is a retired British sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and the 200 metres. Career Talbot won the 200m bronze medal at the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki. For Team GB in the 4 × 100 m at the London 2012 Olympics, he ran the third leg in the heats but failed to exchange the baton with anchor Adam Gemili. He ran again for Britain in the 4 x 100 at the 2014 World Relay Championships, forming part of a quartet which ran 37.93 in the heats and went on to win bronze. At the IAAF World Championships held in London in 2017, Talbot qualified for the 200 metres semifinal with a personal best of 20.16 in his heat on 7 August. Five days later he ran the third leg for the 4 x 100 metres relay team which won the gold medal in a time of 37.47, a British and European record. Mark Anthony Lewis-Francis, MBE (born 4 September 1982) is a retired British track and field athlete, specifically a sprinter, who specialised in the 100 metres and was an accomplished regular of GB 4 x 100m relay. A renowned junior, his greatest sporting achievement at senior level has been to anchor the Great Britain and Northern Ireland 4 x 100 metres relay team to a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The Men's 4 × 100 metres relay event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on 4 September. USA won the first semi-final with deliberate handoffs, setting the world leader. France followed them into the final. The second semi-final was won by Trinidad and Tobago, ahead of favored Jamaica. Saint Kitts and Nevis set their national record in making the time qualifier in third. The third semi-final was much closer as Great Britain led Poland, with Italy making the final time qualifier. In the final, Nesta Carter put Jamaica out into the lead, but Justin Gatlin ran down Michael Frater to put the USA even with Jamaica. On the third leg, Yohan Blake again edged Jamaica into the lead. Rochelle Woods
Rochelle "Shelly" Woods (born 4 June 1986) is an elite British Paralympic athlete from the suburb of Layton in Blackpool, Lancashire. Woods is a T54 athlete who competes as a wheelchair racer in medium and long-distance events. She has competed in two Paralympic Games, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, where she won three medals. She is also a world-class marathon athlete, winning the women's elite wheelchair race at the 2007 and 2012 London Marathon. Personal history Woods was born on 4 June 1986 in Blackpool. Michael David Bushell MBE (born 8 June 1990) is a Paralympic gold medalist and personal trainer from Telford, Shropshire, England. He has lumbar sacral spinal agenesis congenital paraplegia and competes in T53 category sprint events. He is the British record holder at 100m and 200, and a European record holder at 100m. Early life Bushell was born on 8 June 1990 at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Due to his health problems doctors initially told his parents that he would probably never be able sit up or mobilise on his own but Bushell surprised everyone when he started crawling around and eventually walking on his hands in a handstand position.
