Eton is a town in Murray County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Dalton, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 824 at the 2020 census, down from 910 in 2010. History A post office called Eton has been in operation since 1906. The community's name most likely is a transfer from Eton College, in England. Geography Eton is located north of the center of Murray County at (34.822554, -84.761826). U.S. Route 411 passes through the center of town, leading south to Chatsworth, the county seat, and north to Ocoee, Tennessee. Georgia State Route 286 leads west from Eton to Dawnville. Lake Conasauga is a lake in the Lake Conasauga Campground located near the summit of Grassy Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in northern Georgia, United States. It is the highest lake in Georgia at above sea level. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which finished it in 1940. "Conasauga" is a name derived from the Cherokee language meaning "grass". Lake Conasauga camp ground is managed by the Armuchee-Cohutta Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service. Fort Mountain is a mountain in northern Georgia, just east of Chatsworth. It is part of the Cohutta Mountains, a small mountain range at the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains.
