Granville F.C.
Granville Football Club was a 19th-century football club based at Myrtle Park, in Crosshill, Glasgow. History The club was officially founded in 1872 as a football playing division of the Granville Cricket Club. However the club's first match had already taken place, with Queen's Park beating a Granville side 1-0 in November 1871; six Queen's Park men made up the numbers for Granville. By 1873 the club had 80 members, which made it nearly as big as Queen's Park, and in April 1872 the club was the first Scottish side to avoid defeat to Queen's Park, with a 0-0 draw. Along with Queen's Park, Granville was one of the founder members of the Scottish Football Association. The club entered the first Scottish Cup in 1873–74 season. The club had an unlucky draw, away to the eventual finalists Clydesdale, and lost 6-0. The team did not play in subsequent tournaments. Granville dissolved in 1878. Crosshill, Glasgow
Crosshill is an area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is situated south of the River Clyde. It was an independent police burgh from 1871 to 1891 before being annexed by the City of Glasgow. History Formerly part of the County of Renfrew, Crosshill had a brief existence as an independent police burgh from 1871 until it was absorbed by Glasgow in 1891. Crosshill and Govanhill to its north form a continuous built-up area and due to sharing a postcode and amenities, as well as a similar design style in some buildings, they are often considered to be the same district (however historically this was not the case – Govanhill was in the County of Lanark). Crosshill also borders Queen's Park and Mount Florida to the south, Strathbungo to the west and Polmadie to the east. Hamilton Crescent
Hamilton Crescent is a cricket ground in the Partick area of Glasgow, Scotland, which is the home of the West of Scotland Cricket Club. Hamilton Crescent hosted the first international football match, between Scotland and England, played on 30 November 1872, which ended in a goalless draw, and was watched by a crowd of 4,000. A plaque on the wall of the clubhouse was placed to commemorate the match in 2002 by Mr John C McGinn, President of the Scottish Football Association. Further international matches were held here in 1874 and 1876, before being moved to the first Hampden Park. William Ker (footballer)
William Ker (1852–1925) was a Scottish footballer, who played in the first ever international football match for Scotland against England in 1872. Ker also played for Scotland against England the following year. He played for Scottish amateur club Queen's Park. His younger brother, George Ker, was also a Scotland international footballer. He was the son of the renowned physicist Rev John Kerr, discoverer of the Kerr effect and revised the spelling of his surname as a young man to Ker.
