Granville Central opened for the 2007–2008 school year for grades 9 and 10. It was opened partially to relieve the overcrowded J. F. Webb High School and South Granville High School. The following school year the junior class was added, and in the 2009–2010 the senior class was added. The first graduating class from GCHS was the class of 2010. Stem, North Carolina
Stem is a town in Granville County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 960 at the 2020 Census. History The town of Stem was established as a separate and distinct entity from Tally Ho township in 1888 by William Thomas Stem. The Stem family were co-proprietors of a general store in the Tally Ho township and owners of the land where a new spur of the Richmond and Danville Railroad terminated. Stem was built around this new rail station. The town was incorporated in 1911. Stem is home to the historic Cozart-Coley House. Granville County Schools is a PK– 12 graded school district serving Granville County, North Carolina. Its 15 schools serve approximately 6,627 students as of the 2022- 2023 school year. The system was formed in 1963 from the merger of the former Granville County Schools and Oxford City schools. Granville county public schools now offers year round schools, and also the new Granville academy which offers different way of leaning. History The move towards merging the Granville County Schools system with the Oxford City Schools system was approved by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1961. The official merging of the systems occurred in July, 1963. South Granville High School
South Granville High is a high school in Creedmoor, North Carolina and is part of the Granville County Schools system. History South Granville High School was built in 1962 as a replacement high school for the already existing Creedmoor High (also located in Creedmoor; later known as the Creedmoor School). Since the Supreme Court case of Brown vs. Board of Education, the schools of North Carolina worked to become integrated. In Granville County this did not become true until late 1969. The black high school of G. C. Hawley (est. 1936) located a mile away from South Granville became the junior high school in 1970 taking the grades of 5–8 and South Granville became the high school with grades of 9–12.
