Grant Tierney
Peter Grant Tierney (born 11 October 1961) is a Scottish former footballer who has played in the Scottish Football League Premier Division for Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle. Tierney has always been known as Grant rather than Peter. Playing career Tierney began his playing career at Hearts but never made a first team appearance and after breaking a leg in a reserve team fixture, moved on to Cowdenbeath. After joining Meadowbank Thistle, he was appointed club captain and led the Edinburgh club in a successful period where they won the Scottish Football League Second Division in 1986–87 then finished runners-up in the First Division the following year, being denied a place in the Premier Division by league reconstruction. In December 1988, Tierney joined Dunfermline Athletic and won promotion to the Premier Division at the end of the season. Scottish Football League Second Division
The Scottish Football League Second Division was the third tier of the Scottish football league system between 1975 and 2013. History The Second Division was created in 1975, as part of a wider reconstruction of the Scottish Football League (SFL). Prior to 1975, the SFL had been split into two divisions (Division One and Division Two). The effect of the reconstruction was to split these two divisions into three, with the top flight named the Premier Division, second tier the First Division, and a new third tier was created known as the Second Division. A fourth tier, known as the Third Division, was created in 1994. In 1998, the Premier Division clubs broke away from the SFL to form the Scottish Premier League (SPL). John Sludden
John Sludden (29 December 1964 – 7 May 2021) was a Scottish footballer and manager. He played as a striker for several clubs in the Scottish Football League, and was also manager of East Stirlingshire in the Lowland League. Playing career On 7 June 1980, Sludden played for Scotland versus England at Wembley Stadium in the Schoolboy International that was shown live on TV, scoring two goals in the team's 5–4 win, with Paul McStay also scoring two goals and Ally Dick the other goal. England's Paul Rideout scored a hat-trick in the match. Sludden then signed for Celtic on the same day that McStay signed for the Parkhead club. Sludden played only once for the first-team in a Glasgow Cup Final versus Rangers in 1982. Sludden joined Leeds United on trial in May 1983 but failed to secure a contract.
