Grand Stable And Carriage Building
The Grand Stable and Carriage Building is a building in downtown Portland, Oregon, United States that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 7, 1982. The building was built by Oregon business pioneer Simeon Gannett Reed in 1887. It features a classic Italianate cast iron facade. The National Register listing also includes an 1894 commercial building located adjacent to the Grand Stable Building, to its south. Warren Heywood Williams (1844 in New York City – January 1888) was an American architect, who spent most of his career working in the U.S. state of Oregon. Starting in 1860, he apprenticed in San Francisco as a draftsman at the architectural firm of his father, Stephen H. Williams, and Henry W. Cleaveland. Simeon Gannett Reed (April 23, 1830 – November 7, 1895) was an American businessman and entrepreneur in Oregon. A native of Massachusetts, he made a fortune primarily in the transportation sector in association with William S. Ladd. Portland architecture includes a number of notable buildings, a wide range of styles, and a few notable pioneering architects.
