Grand Sefton Steeplechase
The Grand Sefton Handicap Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged six years or older. It is run at Aintree over a distance of about 2 miles and 5 furlongs (2 miles 5 furlongs and 19 yards, or 4,242 metres), and during its running there are eighteen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place in November. It was first run over a one hundred year period from 1865 to 1965 as part of Aintree's autumn meeting and was run over a distance of just under three miles. Originally, the Grand Sefton was one of the most important events of the autumn, but after the Second World War its popularity waned as Aintree's fortunes foundered. In 2003, the race was revived and run on the first day of the November Becher Meeting and run over the same fences as Aintree's most famous race, the Grand National. In horse racing in the United Kingdom, France and Republic of Ireland, National Hunt racing requires horses to jump fences and ditches. National Hunt racing in the UK is informally known as "jumps" and is divided into two major distinct branches: hurdles and steeplechases. Alongside these there are "bumpers", which are National Hunt flat races. In a hurdles race, the horses jump over obstacles called hurdles; in a steeplechase the horses jump over a variety of obstacles that can include plain fences, water jump or an open ditch. In the UK the biggest National Hunt events of the year are generally considered to be the Grand National and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Sean Bowen
Sean Bowen (born 5 September 1997) is a Welsh jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. Bowen is the son of horse racing trainer Peter Bowen. Career Bowen was an accomplished point-to-point jockey, who won the Wilkinson Sword title for his achievements in the discipline; later it was also won by his brother James Bowen. In 2015, Bowen won both the Champion Conditional Jockey Championship and the Racing Excellence Hands and Heels Championship. Venetia Williams
Venetia Williams (born 10 May 1960) is an English racehorse trainer specialising in National Hunt racing. She is based at stables at Aramstone in Herefordshire, England. Williams was born at Scorrier House, Cornwall and began as a racehorse trainer at Ty-Pengam. She was an amateur National Hunt jockey until forced to retire after suffering a broken neck in 1988. She worked for racehorse trainers Martin Pipe and John Edwards before taking up a licence to train herself in 1995. Her most successful horse to date has been Mon Mome, winner of the 2009 Grand National. This victory made her only the second female trainer to win the race, after Jenny Pitman. Liam Treadwell
Liam Treadwell (3 January 198623 June 2020) was an English National Hunt jockey, who won over 300 races between 2009 and 2019. He won the 2009 Grand National on Mon Mome at odds of 100/1, and also won the United House Gold Cup, Byrne Group Plate, and Grand Sefton Steeplechase races. Personal life Treadwell was born in Arundel, West Sussex, England. He attended the local Angmering School. He was nicknamed "Tredders". Career Treadwell worked alongside trainer Venetia Williams. He was the winner of the 2009 Grand National, having ridden Mon Mome to victory at odds of 100/1. David Pipe (racehorse Trainer)
David Pipe (born 7 February 1973) is a horse racing trainer based in Somerset. He is the son of 15 time champion trainer Martin Pipe. Early career Pipe started riding in point to points in 1992 and scored 22 wins in 5 seasons, and 2 under rules - including on Bonanza Boy in the Ludlow Gold Cup. After retiring from the saddle he would begin learning the training craft across the globe spending time with Michael Dickinson, Criquette Head-Maarek and Joey Ramsden. As Friends Rust is an American melodic hardcore band based in Gainesville, Florida. The original line-up, which included vocalist Damien Moyal, guitarist Henry Olmino, bass guitarist Jeronimo Gomez and drummer Matthew Crum, formed in Davie, Florida in September 1996. After recording a demo tape but failing to secure a record deal, the band parted ways in February 1997. Nigel Twiston-Davies (born 16 May 1957, Crickhowell) is a British racehorse trainer specialising in National Hunt racing. He is based at stables at Naunton, Gloucestershire. He began training in 1981 and sent out his first winner, Last of the Foxes, at Hereford Racecourse in 1982. He has trained over 1000 winners under National Hunt rules including two winners of the Grand National with Earth Summit in 1998 and Bindaree in 2002, and the winner of the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup with Imperial Commander.
