Prince Rose
Prince Rose (1928–1944) was a British-bred, Belgian-trained Thoroughbred racehorse, often referred to as the best horse in Belgian racing. Background Bred in England by Lord Durham, Prince Rose was sired by Rose Prince out of the mare Indolence. His grandsire was Prince Palatine, a two-time British Horse of the Year and his damsire was Gay Crusader, winner of the 1917 English Triple Crown. The Earl of Durham died in 1929 and his estate sold Prince Rose to Henri Coppez (1869–1946) who brought him to Belgium. Racing career At age three, Prince Rose won the Grand Prix de Bruxelles, beat the great French filly Pearl Cap in the Grand International d'Ostende then was third to her in the 1931 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Albert-Joseph-Léon "Bob" Demuyser ( Laeken, 3 September 1920 – Uccle, 15 June 2003) was a Belgian artist and racehorse owner. In his work, he had a preference for natural-looking images of horses. Boitsfort Racecourse
Watermael-Boitsfort () or Watermaal-Bosvoorde () is a residential suburb of the city of Brussels in Belgium, and one of the 19 municipalities which form the Brussels-Capital Region. The municipality has a total area of of which 58 percent is covered by the Sonian Forest (''Forêt de Soignes'' or ''Zoniënwoud''). Thoroughbred
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered " hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit. North Stoke (horse)
North Stoke (4 April 1974 – 1979) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed promise when winning two of his three races as a two-year-old in 1976. In the following year he was campaigned internationally and made consistent improvement to emerge as one of the leading middle-distance colts of the year with six consecutive victories. After two wins in handicap races in England he took the Grand Prix de Bruxelles in Belgium, the Land of Burns Stakes in Scotland, the Fürstenberg-Rennen in Germany and the Joe McGrath Memorial Stakes in Ireland. Despite a defeat in the Champion Stakes he was rated the best British-trained colt of his generation by Timeform. Grand Prix Prince Rose
Formerly known as the ''Grand International d'Ostende'' (1898), the race was renamed Grand Prix Prince Rose in honor of the great Belgian crack, Prince Rose. It is run in July at the Ostend racecourse on the occasion of the Belgian National Day. In 1931 Prince Rose beat the French mare Pearl Cap who went on to win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe later that year.
