The Grand Prix des Frontières was a motor race held at a street circuit in Chimay, Belgium Belgium, ; french: Belgique ; german: Belgien officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a country in Northwestern Europe. The country is bordered by the Netherlands to the north, Germany to the east, Luxembourg to the southeast, France to th .... The race was created by Jules Buisseret, who was also responsible for the circuit's existence. The first event was held in 1926 and was discontinued after the 1972 event for safety reasons. Since the 1980s, races for classic motorcycles have been run on a reduced version of the Chimay road circuit under the banner of the Grand Prix des Frontières. The full circuit was used for the 2008 anniversary races, but since that year the full circuit has been reserved for special occasions, with the regular annual events using the shorter course. 1954 Grand Prix Des Frontières
The 24th Grand Prix des Frontières was a non-championship Formula One motor race held on 6 June 1954 at the Chimay Street Circuit in Chimay, Belgium. The Grand Prix was won by B. Bira in a Maserati A6GCM. André Pilette finished second in a Gordini T16 and Don Beauman was third in a Connaught Type A-Lea Francis. Jacques Pollet took pole and fastest lap in another Gordini T16. During the race Pollet crashed while avoiding the spinning Pilette and two spectators were killed. The 17th Grand Prix des Frontières was a Formula Libre motor race held on 25 May 1947 at the Chimay Street Circuit in Chimay, Belgium. The Grand Prix was won by B. Bira in a Maserati 4CL. Bira also set fastest lap. Peter Monkhouse finished second in a Bugatti Type 51 and Louis Rosier was third in a Talbot-Lago.
