Grand Prix Arizona
The Grand Prix Arizona was a planned annual round of the Champ Car World Series in Phoenix, Arizona, and was going to be an open-wheel race on a temporary street course through downtown Phoenix. The inaugural event was to have taken place from November 30 to December 1, 2007 and would have been continued annually for at least five years had the event not called off. Financial pressures forced the event's sponsors to cancel the inaugural race. History Grand Prix Arizona was owned and organized by local Arizona businessmen Dale Jensen and Bradley Yonover. Yonover and Jensen pitched their idea for bringing the race to downtown Phoenix and won over the support of local leaders, including the Phoenix city council, but had run into significant opposition from local businesses as well as concerns over noise brought up by Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaio, as part of the track passed in front of the department's downtown call center. Team Australia was an auto racing team competing in the V8 Supercars and Champ Car World Series. It was created in early 2005 when two Australian businessmen Craig Gore and John Fish bought into Derrick Walker's Walker Racing operation. After the 2007 the operation was scaled back to just Will Power who joined KV Racing, before ending entirely a year later. Phoenix Street Circuit
The Formula One United States Grand Prix was held on the Phoenix street circuit in Phoenix, Arizona, between 1989 and 1991. It was held in downtown by the Phoenix Civic Plaza and the America West Arena, prior to the introduction of the state's baseball stadium, Bank One Ballpark. The United States Grand Prix lasted in Phoenix for three years, but was inexplicably dropped by Formula One management. There were no further Formula One races in the US until the Indianapolis Motor Speedway first held a Grand Prix in 2000. Simon Pagenaud (born 18 May 1984) is a French professional racing driver. He is contracted to drive the No. 60 Honda for Meyer Shank Racing in the IndyCar Series. After a successful career in sports car racing that saw him taking the top class championship title in the 2010 American Le Mans Series, he moved to the Indycar Series where he became the 2016 IndyCar champion and the 2019 Indianapolis 500 winner, becoming the first French driver to win the Indianapolis 500 since Gaston Chevrolet in 1920 and the first polesitter to have won the race since Helio Castroneves in 2009.
