Grand Master Of Magic Award
The Grand Master of Magic Award is a lifetime achievement award presented by the Brotherhood of Auckland Magicians Incorporated on behalf of the magicians of New Zealand. It was first awarded in 1969 and to date it has been awarded on nineteen occasions. Criteria for the Grand Master of Magic The criteria for the Grand Master of Magic Award was formalised in 1998 and is as follows : "Its purpose is to honour those magicians who are acknowledged by their fellow magicians to be masters of the art and craft of magic. The recipients first and foremost must be performers of a high standard. In addition they might be originators of magical effects, or administrators giving time and expertise to running societies and conventions. Brotherhood Of Auckland Magicians
The Brotherhood of Auckland Magicians Inc (BAM) is a New Zealand-based non-for-profit organisation and magic club. It was founded in 1946. Formation and history The Brotherhood of Auckland Magicians (BAM) was founded in July 1946 in Grey Lynn, Auckland and was incorporated in 1979. The first president was John Mitchell. Aims and objectives of the organisation as outlined in the constitution are to promote goodwill, mutual respect and cooperation amongst active performing magicians; to instil respect and loyalty for the personal inventions, specialties and routines of fellow magicians and to enhance professionalism in all areas of the business of magic. Magic Convention
A magic convention is a gathering of professional magicians, magical hobbyists, dealers, collectors of magical apparatus, books and ephemera, and other students of the art of magic. It provides a place for lectures of subjects related to the craft, as well as a series of sample performances of noted or innovative techniques. Many conventions also hold competitions to judge who excels at a particular style, and present awards in various categories such as sleight of hand, card tricks, mentalism, and stage illusions. Edgar Wilson Benyon (29 March 1901–14 September 1978) was a New Zealand magician, juggler and entertainer. He was born in Auckland, New Zealand on 29 March 1901. In 1969 the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand Inc created an award in his honour. Named the Benny Award, it is the highest honour available to a New Zealand variety entertainer. Alan Watson (magician)
Alan Scott Watson (born 26 November 1950) is a professional magician living and performing in Auckland, New Zealand. He has been performing professionally for more than 30 years and has been presented with some of magic's highest awards and accolades. Biography Born in Wellington in 1950, Watson learned the art of magic from his great-great uncle, Oswald Ashton, at the age of seven. He has appeared at the Magic Castle in Hollywood five times for a total of over 100 performances. He was the founder and administrator of the MagicNZ BBS in 1993. Watson also founded the Magic New Zealand e-zine and has acted as editor from 1999 to present. In 1995 he was awarded the MIMC with Gold Star, the highest degree member of The Magic Circle. Paul Romhany (born 25 October 1968) is a New Zealand-born magician best known for his Charlie Chaplin magic act. He has been awarded many industry awards including the PCAM Gold Medal and the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand Top Variety Act award.
