Gracie Family
The Gracie Family () are a prominent martial arts family originally from Belém, state of Pará, Brazil whose ancestors came from Paisley, Scotland. They are known for creating the self-defense martial arts system of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, also known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They have been successful in combat sports competitions for over 80 years representing their self-defense system (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) including mixed martial arts (MMA), Vale tudo and submission wrestling events. Hurricane Gracie was a major hurricane that formed in September 1959, the strongest during the 1959 Atlantic hurricane season and the most intense to strike the United States since Hurricane Hazel in 1954. Gracie Mansion
Archibald Gracie Mansion (commonly called Gracie Mansion) is the official residence of the Mayor of New York City. Built in 1799, it is located in Carl Schurz Park, at East End Avenue and 88th Street in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan. The mansion overlooks Hell Gate channel in the East River. History Before construction and early days George Washington commandeered a different building on approximately the same site during the American Revolutionary War, as it strategically overlooked Hell Gate. ''Gracie'' is a 2007 American sports drama film directed by Davis Guggenheim. It stars Carly Schroeder as Gracie Bowen, Dermot Mulroney as Bryan Bowen, Elisabeth Shue as Lindsay Bowen, Jesse Lee Soffer as Johnny Bowen, and Andrew Shue as Coach Owen Clark. ''Gracie'' takes place in New Jersey in 1978, before 1972's Title IX had taken much effect in women's college sports and when organized women's soccer was still very rare in the United States. ''Songs for Silverman'' is the second solo studio album by Ben Folds, released in April 2005 by Epic Records. The album reached No. 13 on the ''Billboard'' 200, making it Folds' highest-charting album until the release of '' Way to Normal'' in 2008. The album is named after Ben Goldman, Folds' former A&R representative at Sony BMG. Folds explained, "I was always sending songs to him for the album, so I wanted to name it after him. But somebody (from Sony) found out and flipped out, so I changed it a bit and turned it in." Goldman's name also spawned the title of Folds' compilation album '' Songs for Goldfish''. The ''Gracie'' was a 19th-century racing sloop yacht built in 1868 by James E. Smith shipyard at Nyack, New York. She raced the America's Cup defender ''Mischief'' in the trails off Sandy Hook in 1881. ''Gracie'' raced at the New York Yacht Club, Atlantic Yacht Club and other eastern yacht clubs. After a 42-year career in racing, she was sold in 1909 and converted to a freight boat sailing from Milton Point, off Long Island to New York. Construction and service The yacht ''Gracie'' was launched in July 1868, modeled and built at James E. Smith shipyard at Nyack, New York, by builder A. G. Polhemus, from a model by Abraham A.
