Grace Harvey
Grace Harvey (born 31 August 1998) is a British Paralympic swimmer, and European and British record holder, who specializes in the breaststroke. Career Harvey is a British para-swimmer competing in the S6 SB5 SM6 classification for swimmers with a physical impairment. Grace's home town is Ware, Hertfordshire. She learnt to swim when aged four and she took it up as a sport to control the symptoms of cerebral palsy which caused her legs to spasm. She decided that she wanted to be an athlete after she watched the 2004 Summer Paralympics. Harvey is supported by National Lottery funding. Harvey's favourite competition location is Sheffield at the Ponds Forge sports centre. In April 2021 she came first in points in the freestyle swimming where she beat Maisie Summers-Newton into second place. Ware, Hertfordshire
Ware is a town in Hertfordshire, England close to the county town of Hertford. It is also a civil parishes in England, civil parish in East Hertfordshire district. Location The town lies on the north–south A10 road (Great Britain), A10 road which is partly shared with the east–west A414 road, A414 (for Hertford to the west and Harlow to the east). Breaststroke
Breaststroke is a swimming style in which the swimmer is on their chest and the torso does not rotate. It is the most popular recreational style due to the swimmer's head being out of the water a large portion of the time, and that it can be swum comfortably at slow speeds. In most swimming classes, beginners learn either the breaststroke or the freestyle (front crawl) first. However, at the competitive level, swimming breaststroke at speed requires endurance and strength comparable to other strokes. Some people refer to breaststroke as the "frog" stroke, as the arms and legs move somewhat like a frog swimming in the water. The stroke itself is the slowest of any competitive strokes and is thought to be the oldest of all swimming strokes. Alice Tai
Alice Tai, (born 31 January 1999) is a British paralympic swimmer. Tai competes in the SB8, SM8 and S8. She has represented Great Britain at European and World Championships and at the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games, gold medals at all levels. Personal history Tai was born in Poole, England in 1999 and grew up in New Milton. Her parents are Steve, an IT specialist, and Angela, a teacher. She has a brother called Christian. Tai was born with bilateral talipes (clubfoot), and before the age of 12 she had undergone 14 corrective operations to alleviate her condition, sometimes requiring a wheelchair for long periods of time during recovery. She studied neuroscience in London. In January 2022, her right leg was amputated below the knee after worsening pain in her right foot. Maisie Summers-Newton (born 26 July 2002) is a British Paralympic Swimming (sport), swimmer, competing in Disability sport classification#Swimming, S6 disability events. In August 2018, she took gold in the IPC Swimming European Championships SM6 200m individual medley and set a new world record at 2:59.60. She also holds the S6 100m Breaststroke world record in 1:33.92, which she achieved in May 2018 at the British Para-Swimming International Meet. She won two gold medals for Great Britain at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Great Britain at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Summers-Newton took gold at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships in London, England.
