Gow Langsford Gallery
Gow Langsford Gallery is a commercial art gallery in Auckland, New Zealand. The gallery was established in 1987 by John Gow and Gary Langsford. Gow Langsford represents and has represented many significant New Zealand and international artists, including Max Gimblett, Jacqueline Fahey, Paul Dibble and Dick Frizzell. Although Gow Langsford Gallery is often associated with John Leech Gallery, whose origins can be traced back to the mid-19th century, Gow Langsford was created as a separate venture and with a different purpose in mind. History Gary Langsford and John Gow and jointly founded the gallery in 1987 in a disused Richmond Road petrol station in Grey Lynn. The gallery opened with a group show that included Dick Frizzell, Judy Millar, Greer Twiss and Allen Maddox. Michael Hight
Michael Hight (born 1961) is a New Zealand artist and illustrator. Background Hight was born in Stratford, New Zealand in 1961. He graduated with a B.Soc.Sc from Victoria University of Wellington in 1982. Between 1984 and 1987 he traveled, and lived and painted in London. He is a self-taught artist, and has been painting since the age of 14. Hight is the husband of New Zealand poet and children's writer Paula Green and has provided illustrations for several of her children's books. John Walsh (artist)
John Walsh is a painter who was born in 1954 in Tolaga Bay, New Zealand. He is of Aitanga a Hauiti/ New Zealand Irish descent. Although he attended Ilam School of Fine Arts in Christchurch between 1973 and 1974, he is largely a self-taught artist. He now lives and works in Wellington, New Zealand. His work Although John Walsh started painting later in life, he has managed to create a name for himself on the New Zealand art scene. Lisa Roet
Lisa Roet (born 1967) is an Australian artist who lives and works in Melbourne. She studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 2005 she received the McClelland Sculpture Prize. The sculpture, ''White Ape'', is now part of the collection of the McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery. Roet is interested in the relationship between humans and primates and explores this relationship through her bronze sculptures, charcoal drawings, film and photography. She has travelled to remote areas in Borneo for field observations of apes in forests in addition to involving herself in a range of residencies with research centres and major international zoos. Darryn George
Darryn George (born 1970) is a New Zealand artist of Ngāpuhi descent who is based in Christchurch. Education George trained as an artist at the Ilam School of Fine Arts in Canterbury and graduated with a BFA in painting in 1993. He subsequently completed a Diploma in Teaching, and then, studied towards a MFA (painting) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. George is the Head of the Art Department at Christ’s College in Christchurch. Katharina Grosse
Katharina Grosse (born 2 October 1961) is a German artist. As an artist, Grosse's work employs a use of architecture, sculpture and painting. She is known for her large-scale, site-related installations to create immersive visual experiences. She has been using an industrial paint-sprayer to apply prismatic swaths of color to a variety of surfaces since the late 1990s, and often uses bright, unmixed sprayed-on acrylic paints to create both large-scale sculptural elements and smaller wall works.
