Govindasamy Rajasekaran
Govindasamy Rajasekaran (born 1941 or 1942) is a Malaysian former trade union leader. Rajasekaran was the founding general secretary of the Malaysian Metal Industry Employees' Union in 1963. The union affiliated to the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC), of which Rajasekaran was elected as deputy general secretary in 1980, and then general secretary in 1992. The MTUC was in turn affiliated to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), and Rajasekaran was elected as president of the ICFTU Asia and Pacific Regional Organisation in 2005. Malaysians are nationals and citizens who are identified with the country of Malaysia. Although citizens make up the majority of Malaysians, non-citizen residents and overseas Malaysians may also claim a Malaysian identity. The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) was an international trade union. It came into being on 7 December 1949 following a split within the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), and was dissolved on 31 October 2006 when it merged with the World Confederation of Labour (WCL) to form the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). Prior to being dissolved, the ICFTU had a membership of 157 million members in 225 affiliated organisations in 148 countries and territories. The ICFTU Asia and Pacific Regional Organisation (APRO) was a regional organisation of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), representing trade unions from countries in Asia and Oceania. History The federation was founded in May 1951 at a meeting in Karachi, as the ''Asian Regional Organisation''. The Brotherhood of Asian Trade Unions (BATU) was a federation bringing together trade unionists in Asia. History The federation was established on 20 December 1963, at a conference in Manila. Sharan Burrow
Sharan Leslie Burrow (born 12 December 1954) was the general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) (2010-2022) and a former president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) (2000–2010). She was the first woman to become General Secretary of the ITUC since its foundation in 2006, and was the second woman to become President of the ACTU. Early involvement in Australian labour movement Burrow was born in Warren, New South Wales to a family with strong involvement in the labour movement. She graduated in teaching with the University of New South Wales in 1976 and became a teacher in the early 1980s, which allowed her to become involved in the New South Wales Teachers Federation. Felix M. Anthony is a Fiji Indian trade unionist and politician. During the 2000 coup, he was illegally detained by members of the Taukei Movement, an ethnic Fijian extremist organisation. He was appointed to the Senate in 2002 as one of eight nominees of the Leader of the Opposition. Anthony is National Secretary of the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC). He was reelected as General Secretary of the Fiji Sugar and General Workers Union on 11 March 2006. In the parliamentary election held on 6–13 May 2006, Anthony was elected to the House of Representatives seat, representing the Vuda Open Constituency for the Fiji Labour Party (FLP).
