The governor of the Bank of Canada () is the chief executive officer of the Bank of Canada and acts as chair of its board of directors. The ''Bank of Canada Act'', 1985, S. 6(1), provides that the governor and deputy governor shall be appointed by the directors with the approval of the Governor in Council. Tiff Macklem serves as the current governor. He assumed office on June 3, 2020. Tiff Macklem
Richard Tiffany Macklem (born June 4, 1961), known as Tiff Macklem, is a Canadian banker and economist who serves as the 10th and current governor of the Bank of Canada. He was also the former dean of the Rotman School of Management and had previously served as the senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada. Early life and education Richard Tiffany Macklem was born on June 4, 1961, in Montreal, Quebec, to Dick and Janet (Gray-Donald) Macklem. His father was the chief financial officer of Birks. His uncle, Peter Macklem, was a physician. He grew up in Westmount, where he attended Selwyn House School from grades 5 to 11. John Crow
John William Crow (born 22 January 1937) was the fifth Governor of the Bank of Canada from 1987 to 1994, succeeding Gerald Bouey. He was succeeded by Gordon Thiessen. Born in London, England, he went to Parmiter's School also he served with the Royal Air Force for two years before receiving a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford in 1961. He spent the next decade at the International Monetary Fund and was appointed Chief of the North American division in 1970. In 1973, he joined the research department of the Bank of Canada as Deputy Chief and became chief about a year later. He was appointed Adviser to the Governor in 1979 and Deputy Governor in May 1981. The chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is the head of the Federal Reserve, and is the active executive officer of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Governor Of The Bank Of England
The governor of the Bank of England is the most senior position in the Bank of England. It is nominally a civil service post, but the appointment tends to be from within the bank, with the incumbent grooming their successor. The governor of the Bank of England is also chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee, with a major role in guiding national economic and monetary policy, and is therefore one of the most important public officials in the United Kingdom. According to the original charter of 27 July 1694 the bank's affairs would be supervised by a governor, a deputy governor, and 24 directors. In its current incarnation, the bank's Court of Directors has 12 (or up to 14) members, of whom five are various designated executives of the bank. Paul Jenkins (economist)
Paul Jenkins is a Canadian economist and Distinguished Fellow at The Centre for International Governance Innovation. He was most recently the Senior Deputy Governor and Chief Operating Officer of the Bank of Canada, the number two position in that institution. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, he graduated from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School (St. Catharines). Jenkins completed his undergraduate economics education at The University of Western Ontario with an honours bachelor of arts degree in economics. Gordon Thiessen
Gordon George Thiessen, (born August 14, 1938) was the sixth Governor of the Bank of Canada from 1994 to 2001, succeeding John Crow. He was succeeded by David A. Dodge. Thiessen was born in South Porcupine, Ontario and raised in Saskatchewan. Thiessen studied economics at the University of Saskatchewan and received an Honours BA in 1960 and an MA in 1961.
