The governor of Khabarovsk Krai (russian: Губернатор Хабаровского края) is the highest official of Khabarovsk Krai, a Federal subjects of Russia, federal subject of Russia, situated in the Russian Far East, Far Eastern region of the country. The governor is elected by direct popular vote for the term of five years. History of office After the 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt, August putsch of 1991 in the USSR, the democratic leadership of Russia began to create new executive structures in the regions: Soviet-era ''ispolkoms'' (executive committees) were replaced by administrations. On 24 October 1991 president of Russia Boris Yeltsin appointed former first deputy chairman of Khabarovsk Krai ''ispolkom'' Viktor Ishayev as Head of Administration of Khabarovsk Krai. Mikhail Vladimirovich Degtyarev (russian: Михаи́л Влади́мирович Дегтярёв; born 10 July 1981) is a Russian politician serving as Governor of Khabarovsk Krai since 24 September 2021. He has been a member of the State Duma, representing the Liberal Democratic Party, since the 2011 parliamentary election. He is also Vice Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and High Technology. He is a member of the Supreme Council of the Liberal Democratic Party, and was a candidate for mayor of Moscow in the 2013 and 2018 elections. Biography In 1998, Degtyarev graduated from the Samara International Aerospace High School. In 2004, he graduated from the Samara State Aerospace University, Faculty of aircraft engines (specialty "engineer"), and he also received a special "manager" in the same high school at the Faculty of Economics and Management in 2005. Khabarovsk Oblast () was an administrative division (an ''oblast'') of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic which existed between 1934 and 1939. Its seat was in the city of Khabarovsk. The oblast was located in the eastern part of the Russian Far East, and its territory is currently divided between Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krais. 2021 Khabarovsk Krai Gubernatorial Election
The 2021 Khabarovsk Krai gubernatorial election took place on 17–19 September 2021, on common election day, coinciding with election to the State Duma. On 9 July 2020 Governor Sergei Furgal was arrested on charges of involvement in multiple murders. Furgal was removed from office by President Vladimir Putin on 20 July, and fellow LDPR member Mikhail Degtyarev was appointed as acting Governor. Mikhail Degtyarev won the election becoming the second consecutive member of LDPR elected as Governor of Khabarovsk Krai.
