Government College, Chittur is an educational institution located in Chittur, Palakkad, Kerala. The college is affiliated to the University of Calicut and is recognized as a special-grade college under the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. History The college was established on 11 August 1947, by Cherubala Karunakara Menon, ICS, Devan of erstwhile Cochin state. Initially under the University of Madras and got affiliated to Travancore University in 1949. It started functioning in the present 40 acre campus on the bank of Sokanasini river since 1954. The University of Calicut, also known as Calicut University, is a State ownership, state-run public university headquartered at Tenhipalam in Malappuram district of the state of Kerala, India. Established in 1968, it is the first university to be set up in northern Kerala. University of Kerala, formerly the University of Travancore, is a state-run public university located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. Bharathappuzha ("River of Bhārata"), also known as the Nila or Ponnani River, is a river in India in the state of Kerala. With a length of 209 km, it is the second longest river that flows through Kerala after the Periyar. It flows through Palakkad Gap, which is also the largest opening in the Kerala portion of Western Ghats. Nila has groomed the culture and life of South Malabar part of Kerala. Thiruvizha Jayashankar (born 1940) is an Indian classical musician and a well known Nadaswaram expert in South India. Early life and education Born in the family of musicians in a small village Thiruvizha, Alleppey, Jayashankar was keen to learn music and drawing in his childhood. He is the son of nadaswara maestro Thiruvizha Raghava Panickar and grandson of Thiruvizha Sanku Panickar. Jayashankar opted for preliminary lessons in the nagaswaram under his grandfather and later received advanced training from his father with whom he began playing in the temples of central Travancore almost on a regular basis.
