Goss Ministry
The Goss Ministry was a Ministry of the Government of Queensland, led by Labor Premier Wayne Goss. It commenced on 7 December 1989, five days after the Cooper Ministry, led by Premier Russell Cooper of the National Party, was defeated at the 1989 election. The Goss Ministry was followed by the Borbidge Ministry on 19 February 1996 following the loss by Labor of the Mundingburra by-election two weeks earlier, which deprived the Government of its majority. It served until the reconstitution of the Ministry on 16 December 1991 following the departure of Terry Mackenroth and Ken McElligott from the Ministry. The Ministry
In constitutional usage in Commonwealth realms, a ministry (usually preceded by the definite article, i.e., the ministry) is a collective body of government ministers led by a head of government, such as a prime minister. It is described by Oxford Dictionaries as "a period of government under one prime minister". Although the term "cabinet" can in some circumstances be a synonym, a ministry can be a broader concept which might include office-holders who do not participate in cabinet meetings. Other titles can include "administration" (in the United States) or "government" (in common usage among most parliamentary systems) to describe similar collectives. Dean Wells (politician)
Dean MacMillan Wells (born 13 January 1949) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1986 to 2012 and was a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1983 to 1984. Born of Australian parents in Hiroshima, Japan, he was educated at Monash University before becoming a lawyer. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in 1972 before completing his Master of Arts in 1976. Finally in 1980, he obtained his Bachelor of Laws. Later, he was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Queensland and an author and political commentator. In the autumn of 1981, he lectured at Saint David's University College, Lampeter in Wales. In 1983, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Petrie, defeating sitting Liberal member John Hodges. Hodges defeated Wells in 1984. Pat Comben
Patrick "Pat" Comben AM (born 3 May 1950) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Weymouth in Dorset and was raised on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, attending the Portland Secondary Modern School. Leaving school at 16 he migrated by himself to Australia where worked initially as a farm hand, labourer and stockman. Attending night school as a mature aged student, he matriculated and attended the University of Queensland studying law and government, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. In 1983 Comben was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Windsor. Paul Braddy
Paul Joseph Braddy (born 20 January 1939) is an Australian state politician. Early life He was a solicitor before entering politics and served as an alderman in the Rockhampton City Council for three years from 1979. Political career He entered the Queensland Parliament at a by-election for Rockhampton in 1985. Ed Casey
Edmund Denis Casey (2 January 1933 – 1 May 2006), known as Ed, was best known as the leader of the Australian Labor Party in Queensland between 1978 and 1982. He also served as Primary Industries Minister in the government of Wayne Goss between 1989 and 1995. Casey was the member for Mackay in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland between 1969 and 1995. Ken Vaughan
Kenneth Hamilton Vaughan (29 October 1934 – 22 June 2011) was an Australian politician. Vaughan's father Clifford Llewelyn Vaughan, a butcher, died from blood poisoning in 1939 and he was raised by his mother, Ruby Sarah, in Richmond, attending school in Charters Towers. He was sent to Brisbane to live with his aunt in 1950 to begin work as a clerk for Queensland Railways. He concluded his apprenticeship in 1955, but was conscripted for national service in August 1956, serving as an army sergeant at Wacol. In 1958 he was elected shop steward for the Electrical Trades Union (ETU), and in 1959 married Lesley Cowdroy, in which year he also joined the Labor Party. Nev Warburton
Neville George Warburton (23 February 1932 – 5 August 2018) was an Australian politician from Queensland, who served as leader of the opposition from 1984 to 1988, and as a minister in the Goss Ministry from 1989 to 1992. Career Early career Warburton was elected at the 1977 election as the Labor Party candidate for the seat of Sandgate, succeeding Harold Dean who had held the seat for the ALP since 1960. David Hamill
David John Hamill (born at Ipswich, Queensland on 18 September 1957) is a former Labor Queensland politician, who served in a number of positions including Minister for Transport and Minister Assisting the Premier on Economic and Trade Development, Minister for Education and treasurer.
