Gorseinon RFC
Gorseinon RFC is a Welsh rugby union club representing the town of Gorseinon, Swansea, South Wales. Gorseinon RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. History Gorseinon RFC were formed in 1883 and they were successful in their application to the Welsh Rugby Union in 1895. Up until World War I they played on the Welfare Ground then called Kings Holme sharing the field with both cricket and football teams. At the outbreak of the 1914-18 war the team was disbanded. After the World War the club reformed, but under a new name and with a new playing field. The club played under the name of St Catherine's Church in the lower part of Gorseinon, at the rear of Whittington Terrace. The ground was called Pencefnarda and the changing rooms were at the back of the 'Institute'. Between 1918 and 1931 the ground was redeveloped by the owners of the local works Messrs. Lewis and sons. Gorseinon
Gorseinon is a town within the City and County of Swansea, Wales, near the Loughor estuary. It was a small village until the late 19th century when it grew around the coal mining and tinplate industries. It is situated in the north west of Swansea City Centre, around north west of the city centre. Gorseinon is a local government community with an elected town council. The population of the Gorseinon town council area in the 2011 Census is 8,693. However, the ONS defines an area called the Gorseinon Urban Area which comprises all of the continuous built up area in and around Gorseinon. This area includes Gorseinon, Loughor, Garden Village and Penllergaer and has a population of 20,581. Onllwyn Brace
David Onllwyn Brace (16 November 1932 - 4 July 2013) was a Welsh international scrum-half who played club rugby for Newport and Aberavon. He won nine caps for Wales and would captain the team twice in the early 1960s. Brace was an exciting, unorthodox scrum-half, who epitomised the Welsh flair scrum-half, though his uneven international appearances point towards unhappiness in his match play from the Welsh selectors. Rugby career Brace first played rugby for Aberavon but moved to Newport after the club tried to play him in the unfamiliar role of outside-half to Cliff Ashton. As a Newport player, Brace was chosen to face the touring New Zealand in 1954. Brace later played for Llanelli and captained the team during two seasons 1958/59 and 1960/61. Ross Moriarty
Ross Moriarty (born 18 April 1994) is an international rugby union player, who currently plays for Dragons RFC and Wales as a flanker. Personal life Moriarty was born in St Helens, Merseyside while his father, former Wales international Paul Moriarty, was in the north of England playing rugby league. Moriarty is also the nephew of former Wales international captain Richard Moriarty. He was educated at Glyncollen Primary School and Morriston Comprehensive School in Swansea, Wales. He took up rugby union at the age of ten playing for Swansea Schools and West Wales Schools. Eli Walker
Eli Walker (born 28 March 1992) is a Welsh retired international rugby union player who played for the Ospreys as a winger. He previously played for Swansea. Career Walker first broke into the Ospreys team during the 2011–12 Pro12 season, starting seven matches as they won the title. For the 2012–13 Pro12 season, Walker started to play in the Ospreys first team, winning a place in the starting line up. He started the season in good form, scoring a try in a man of the match performance against Connacht, and followed it with another try the next week against Leinster. His domestic form carried into the 2012–13 Heineken Cup, once again scoring a try and earning a man of the match award, this time against European powerhouse Toulouse. Daniel Biggar (born 16 October 1989) is a Welsh rugby union player currently playing for French Top 14 side Toulon as a fly-half. A Wales international, Biggar has also twice been selected to tour with the British and Irish Lions. Benjamin Lewis Jones (born 11 April 1931) is a Welsh former rugby union and rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. Tom Day (rugby Player)
Tom Day (1907 - 18 September 1980) was a Wales international rugby union player who played club rugby for Swansea. He was awarded 13 caps for Wales and was part of the Welsh side that won the 1931 Five Nations Championship. Day first came to notice while playing for the Wales Secondary Schools, moving to Gorseinon after leaving school. In 1928 he moved teams to Swansea, at the same time as Claude Davey. He stayed with Swansea for the entirety of his international career and captained them during the 1933/34 season. Len Blyth
Leonard Grist Blyth (20 November 1920 – 24 June 1995) was a Welsh international rugby union flanker who played club rugby for Swansea. He captained Swansea and played in three international games for Wales which saw him become a Grand Slam winner.
