Gordon Sheehan
Gordon A. Sheehan (born Gordon Augustine Holland May 11, 1910 – September 6, 1996), was an American animator and cartoonist. He spent the early part of his career at Fleischer Studios animating notable features such as Betty Boop, Popeye, Superman, and Gulliver's Travels, among other works. Early life Born in Mechanicville, New York, he was the seventh of eight children of Patrick and Anna (Hammond) Holland, who were Irish immigrants from county Limerick. After the death of his mother at the age of five, he went to live with a family by the name of Sheehan, whose surname he assumed, although, he was never legally adopted by them. Education Sheehan was a 1928 graduate of Mechanicville High School, and received his artistic education at Pratt Institute, graduating in 1932. Mechanicville
Mechanicville is a city in Saratoga County, New York, United States. The population was 5,196 at the time of the 2010 census. It is the smallest city by area in the state. The name is derived from the occupations of early residents. The city is located on the eastern border of Saratoga County and is north of Albany, the state capital. Mechanicville borders the towns of Stillwater (of which it was once a part) and Halfmoon in the county, and the town of Schaghticoke, Rensselaer County. History The first listing of a settlement on Thenendehowa Creek is in 1721. At that time, Cornelius Van Buren had a sawmill at the mouth of the creek where it emptied into the Hudson River. Mechanicville Jr./Sr. High School is a school located in Halfmoon, New York The school is part of the Mechanicville City School district and serves the district's sixth through 12th grades. In 2011, a merger occurred between the high school and the middle school causing the school to now be known as Mechanicville Jr./Sr. High School. This is a list of the 109 cartoons of the ''Popeye the Sailor'' film series, produced from the beginning of the series in 1933 to 1942 by Fleischer Studios for Paramount Pictures. During the course of production in 1941, Paramount assumed control of the Fleischer studio, removing founders Max and Dave Fleischer from control of the studio and renaming the organization Famous Studios by 1942.
