Gordon MacKenzie
Henry Gordon Mackenzie (July 9, 1937 – August 12, 2014) was an American professional baseball player, manager, coach and scout. He appeared in 11 Major League games played during the final weeks of the season for the Kansas City Athletics, but collected only three singles and one base on balls in 25 plate appearances and never returned to the big leagues as a player. The native of St. Petersburg, Florida, a catcher during his active career (1956–66), threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Mackenzie signed with the Athletics after graduating from St. Petersburg High School. He made his MLB debut on August 13, 1961, as a pinch hitter against the Chicago White Sox, and was a starting catcher for five late-season games, but the 1961 audition provided Mackenzie's only big-league playing experience. Catcher
Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. Kinston Indians
The Kinston Indians were a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League (CL) located in Kinston, North Carolina, from 1978 to 2011. They played their home games at Grainger Stadium, which opened in 1949. The team began play in 1978 as the Kinston Eagles, borrowing their name from the city's first team of the same name dating back to 1925. They became an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1979 and rebranded as the Kinston Blue Jays in 1982. Kinston reverted to the Eagles moniker in 1986 after the Toronto affiliation ended and became the Kinston Indians upon partnering with the Cleveland Indians in 1987. Carolina League
The Carolina League is a Minor League Baseball league which has operated along the Atlantic Coast of the United States since 1945. Having been classified at various levels throughout its existence, it operated at Class A-Advanced from 1990 until its demotion to Single-A following Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The league temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the Low-A East before reassuming its original moniker in 2022. The organization that later became the Carolina League formed in 1945, just as World War II was ending, and consisted of eight teams, six from North Carolina and two from southern Virginia.
