Gordon M. Nelson
Gordon M. Nelson (August 18, 1941July 21, 1993) was an American political activist who served as chairman of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee from 1976 to 1980. Early life Nelson was born on August 18, 1941, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He attended Newton Public Schools and graduated from Newton High School and attended Harvard University, but dropped out to get involved in politics. Early political involvement Nelson first became involved in politics in 1964 when he worked for Barry Goldwater's Presidential campaign. He was also a founder and executive director of the Massachusetts chapter of Young Americans for Freedom. After Goldwater's loss, Nelson stayed out of politics for five years, but returned to oppose the policies of Governor Francis W. Sargent. Massachusetts Republican Party
The Massachusetts Republican Party (MassGOP) is the Massachusetts branch of the U.S. Republican Party. In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 52, the party is governed by a state committee which consists of one man and one woman from each of the 40 State Senate districts. The state committee elects party officers including a chair. The party currently has very weak electoral power in Massachusetts. It controls none of the state's U.S. House seats or U.S. Senate seats, and the only two statewide offices the party controls are the governorship and lieutenant governorship, which are currently held by Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito respectively. John Anthony Volpe (; December 8, 1908November 11, 1994) was an American businessman, diplomat, and politician from Massachusetts. A son of Italian immigrants, he founded and owned a large construction firm. Politically, he was a Republican in increasingly Democratic Massachusetts, serving as its 61st and 63rd Governor from 1961 to 1963 and 1965 to 1969, as the United States Secretary of Transportation from 1969 to 1973, and as the United States Ambassador to Italy from 1973 to 1977. Lewis Sherman Warren Crampton is an American museum executive who served as president and CEO of the Cox Science Center and Aquarium and the Burpee Museum of Natural History. Prior to working as a museum executive, Crampton was a political figure in Massachusetts and held positions with the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
