Gordon Hill is both a road and an area located in the London Borough of Enfield, Greater London, United Kingdom. It is served by Gordon Hill railway station. Adjoining areas include Clay Hill, Enfield Chase, Enfield Town, Crews Hill, Forty Hill and World's End. Gordon Hill has a decent number of shops located on Lavender Hill and Lancaster Road. Also located in Gordon Hill is Chase Farm Hospital. History Gordon Hill is developed on the site of the 18th century mansion Gordon House. Gordon House was built on the Chase near the top of what is now Gordon Hill. It was named after an early occupant, Lord George Gordon (1751–93), instigator of the Gordon Riots. It later belonged to Sir Thomas Hallifax (1721–89), Lord Mayor of London. Gordon House was demolished in about 1860, and the area laid out for housing. Enfield North (UK Parliament Constituency)
Enfield North is a peripheral Greater London constituency created in 1974 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Feryal Clark of the Labour Party. Constituency profile The northernmost seat in Greater London, Enfield North is deeply suburban, almost village-like in parts, particularly its rolling terrain, including Gordon Hill and Carterhatch. Green belt legislation has kept housing development at bay, and the area has much in common with the adjoining county of Hertfordshire. The tree-lined avenues of Enfield Chase are also quiet and affluent. However, much of the eastern part of the constituency is in the Lea Valley industrial area, and includes some small areas with significant levels of multiple deprivation. Oakwood, London
Oakwood is an affluent suburban area of north London, in the London Borough of Enfield. It is situated within the Southgate postal area ( London N14) and was, historically, the southernmost area of Enfield Chase. Local history The area derives its name from Oakwood Park, which Southgate Council purchased in 1927 and opened to the public. Oakwood Park was named after Oak Lodge, which stood in the grounds between the late 19th century and First World War. The arrival in Oakwood of the Piccadilly line extension of the London Underground in 1933 resulted in the construction of the grade II* listed Oakwood tube station and heralded the start of a building boom. Builders George Reed and Laing bought up much of the land for development and estates began to eat up the countryside along Bramley Road and towards Cockfosters. Enfield Chase Railway Station
Enfield Chase railway station is located in Windmill Hill, Enfield, in the London Borough of Enfield, north London, from on the Hertford Loop Line. It is in Travelcard Zone 5. History The original terminus The original Enfield Station in Windmill Hill opened on 1 April 1871 as the terminus for the Great Northern Railway branch line from Alexandra Palace. By 1887, 37 trains a day left Enfield, mainly for King's Cross, but also to Broad Street and until 1907, to Woolwich and Victoria. The station building was a two-storey twin-gabled house, similar in style to the single-storey building at Palmers Green. It was sited lengthways across the end of the track. The single island platform was covered by a wide canopy for much of its length. Enfield Station had been intended to bring prosperous middle-class commuters to the area.
