Gordon Forster
Gordon Alexander Forster (April 30, 1884 – July 23, 1964) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1921 to 1935 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. Political career Forster ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1921 Alberta general election as a United Farmers candidate in the electoral district of Hand Hills. He defeated incumbent Robert Eaton in a two-way race with one of the biggest margins of victory polled in the election. Forster ran for re-nomination at a party convention held on June 5, 1926 in Hanna, Alberta. He defeated three other candidates to run for the United Farmers. He ran for a second term in office in the 1926 Alberta general election. His popular vote was almost cut in half, but he still held his seat easily defeating two other candidates. Robert Berry Eaton (August 5, 1871 – June 13, 1964) was a farmer, service man and provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1913 to 1921. Political career Eaton ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature for the first time in the 1913 Alberta general election. He defeated former Conservative leader and MLA Albert Robertson in a closely contested race. Eaton was acclaimed to his second term in the 1917 Alberta general election under section 38 of the ''Elections Act''. The section stipulated that an incumbent member may not be challenged and returned automatically in his district if he is involved with the Canadian Forces overseas in World War I. Wallace Warren Cross (September 23, 1887 – August 4, 1973) was a medical doctor and long serving politician from Alberta, Canada. Cross was elected in the 1935 Alberta general election for the Alberta Social Credit Party for the Hand Hills district. He served 6 terms in office retiring from provincial politics in 1959. Cross became minister of health under Premier William Aberhart. The United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) is an association of Alberta farmers that has served different roles in its 100-year history – as a lobby group, a successful political party, and as a farm-supply retail chain. The 1921 Alberta general election was held on July 18, 1921, to elect members to the 5th Alberta Legislative Assembly. It was one of only five times that Alberta has changed governments. The Liberal Party, which had governed the province since its creation in 1905, led by Charles Stewart at the time of the election, was defeated by a very-new United Farmers of Alberta political party. The UFA was an agricultural lobby organization that was contesting its first general election. It had previously elected one MLA in a by-election. The 1926 Alberta general election was held on June 28, 1926, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The United Farmers of Alberta government that had first been elected in 1921 was re-elected, taking a majority of the seats in the Alberta Legislature. Herbert Greenfield had resigned as United Farmers leader and premier, and John E. Brownlee led the UFA to this second election victory, increasing the UFA's number of seats.
