Gordon Burns (footballer)
Gordon Burns (born 2 December 1978) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played in the Scottish First Division for Ayr United. Playing career Burns began his footballing career with local boys club Troon Thistle, and also spent time playing with Prestwick Boys Club & Coylton Boys Club, before joining Ayr United Boys Club. He was scouted by several senior teams and trained with Motherwell, Dundee United, Hearts and Celtic before deciding to sign 'S' forms with Ayr United under Manager George Burley. He left Marr College at 16 to sign a 2-year YTS contract at Somerset Park with Manager Simon Stainrod, before signing his first professional contract at Ayr United at the age of 18. Marr College
Marr College (Scottish Gaelic: ''Colaiste Mhàrr'') is a co-educational secondary school in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is owned by the Marr Trust and is operated by South Ayrshire Council which was transferred to then Strathclyde Regional Council in 1975, with South Ayrshire Council being responsible for providing the educational provisional provided by the school. The school was gifted to the town of Troon by Charles Kerr Marr. Throughout 2016-2017, it underwent extensive restoration works including a new build extending on from the original school building. In 2021, 991 pupils attend Marr College. In 2022, Marr College was ranked as the 68th best performing state school in Scotland, a drop from 35th in the 2021 rankings. Ian Ferguson (footballer, Born 1968)
Ian Ferguson (born 5 August 1968 in Dunfermline) is a Scottish former professional footballer. He played for ten clubs in a seventeen-year senior career. Career Ferguson began his career at junior club Lochgelly Albert in the 1980s. In 1987, he signed professional terms with Raith Rovers, and went on to make 111 league appearances for the Stark's Park club, scoring 23 goals. In 1992, he moved to Edinburgh to join Hearts in a £100,000 deal. In just under two years with the ''Jambos'', he scored nine goals in 60 appearances, the most notable being the winner in an Edinburgh Derby in March 1992. Ferguson signed for St Johnstone for £110,000 in 1993, but his four years in Perth were blighted by injury and he managed only 42 league appearances. Ayrshire Derby
The Ayrshire Derby refers to matches between the two professional Scottish football sides based in Ayrshire: Ayr United and Kilmarnock. The first match was held on 14 September 1910, in the same year that Ayr United were formed. This game was the final of the Ayrshire League in the 1909–10 season, and finished in a 4–4 draw. Ayr United were the first of the clubs to record a win the following season. The six most recent meetings took place in national cup competitions because Kilmarnock have played in a higher division than Ayr since 1993. Up until 1998, both clubs competed in a local cup competition, the Ayrshire Cup, which also involved local junior sides. The current record for Ayrshire derby games in major competitions stands at 56 wins for Kilmarnock and 48 for Ayr United. Gordon Dalziel
Gordon Dalziel (born 16 March 1962) is a Scottish football player and manager. Dalziel spent most of his playing career with Raith Rovers, scoring 170 goals in 360 league appearances, and winning the 1994–95 Scottish League Cup. He also played for Rangers, Manchester City Career During his playing career he played as a striker for Rangers, Manchester City, Partick Thistle, East Stirlingshire, Raith Rovers and Ayr United. His greatest success was achieved at Raith Rovers as he became the club's record league goalscorer, winning the Scottish League Cup in 1994–95 (scoring in the final) as well as two First Division titles. Alan Rough
Alan Roderick Rough (; born 25 November 1951) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He won 53 caps for Scotland and played in two FIFA World Cups. He also had a long club career, principally with Partick Thistle and Hibernian. Since retiring as a player, Rough had a spell as manager of junior club Glenafton Athletic and has worked in the media, particularly on radio phone-in shows. Neil Scally
Neil Scally (born 14 August 1978, in Paisley) is a Scottish football coach and former player. Scally played for Ayr United, Dumbarton, Falkirk and Queen of the South. Career Scally started his playing career with Ayr United and then Dumbarton. Scally then played for Falkirk, for who he scored the equalising goal in the 2004 Scottish Challenge Cup Final win against Ross County. That same season Scally and Falkirk earned promotion to the Scottish Premier League as First Division champions. He left on a free transfer from Falkirk in the summer of 2006. Scally then joined Dumfries club Queen of the South. His career was hampered by serious injury, not playing first team football at all in 2008. Keith Hogg
Keith Rodger Hogg (born 27 January 1980) is a Scottish former professional footballer who has played in the Scottish Football League First Division for Ayr United. Career Hogg began his professional career with Ayr United, and made his debut for the club aged 17 in January 1998. In the summer of 2000 he moved on to Hamilton Academical and went on to make a total of 23 appearances in senior football. After leaving Accies, Hogg dropped to Junior level with Glenafton Athletic before joining Linlithgow Rose in July 2005. With Rose, Hogg won the Scottish Junior Cup in 2007 but he missed the club's 2010 victory through injury. Shielfield Park is a football stadium that is home to Berwick Rangers and Berwick Bandits speedway team. Although Berwick Rangers is a Scottish Lowland Football League club, Shielfield Park is situated in the English county of Northumberland. History There has been a ground at Shielfield Park, named after land owned by local butcher William Shiel Dods, since 1890. Berwick Rangers played at a number of other sites in Berwick, including a ground adjacent to the present site at Shielfield. Berwick Rangers first entered the Scottish Football League in 1951.
