Gordon Bowman
Gordon Richard Bowman (10 February 1927 – 14 September 2013) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne and Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bowman, originally from East Malvern, was a member of Melbourne's 1948 premiership team as a half forward flanker. 1945 VFL Season
The 1945 VFL season was the 49th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 21 April until 29 September, and comprised a 20-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the seventh time, after it defeated by 28 points in the 1945 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1945, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus one substitute player, known as the 19th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. Mayne Australian Football Club
Mayne Australian Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the Brisbane suburb of Enoggera. The club colours are black and gold and they are nicknamed the Tigers. It is the most successful club in the history of the Queensland Australian Football League, Queensland's highest level of competition, with 15 premierships from the 1920s to the 1980s. The clubs most recent premiership was in 1982, with a Grand Final appearance in 1985. However after a long drought of success, and following its exclusion from the competition in 1999 struggled to remain competitive with the state's top clubs. As a result the club's men's team currently competes in the second level below the QAFL, QFA Division 1, and the women's team competes in QFAW Division 2.
