Goose Creek Memorial High School is a public high school in an unincorporated area of Harris County, Texas, United States, and is located north of Baytown. Goose Creek Memorial is one of the three public high schools in the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District and was built to accommodate the growing population of northern Goose Creek CISD. It was opened with grades 9 to 11 for the 2008–2009 school year, adding students in grade 12 the following year. In 2011, the school was rated "Academically Acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. ''The Baytown Sun'', is a newspaper published in Baytown, Texas, United States. It was first published 1919 as the ''Goose Creek Gasser''. The paper is owned by Southern Newspapers Inc., a news-media company based in Houston, Texas. History The ''Baytown Sun ''was founded in Goose Creek, Texas, as the weekly publication, ''Goose Creek Gasser'', in 1919. By 1928, the paper was operating under the name ''Daily Tribune''. Due to the economic pressures caused by the Great Depression, in 1931 the ''Daily Tribune'' merged with newspapers in the nearby communities of Pelly and Baytown. Highlands is a census-designated place (CDP) located along the Union Pacific Railroad, north of Interstate 10 and west of Farm to Market Road 2100, in an industrialized area of unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,612 at the 2020 census. History The community was named Highlands because the east bank of the San Jacinto River, where Highlands is located, has a higher elevation than the west bank of the river. By 1908 Highlands became a station on the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway. A post office opened in 1929. Highlands incorporated in 1930, but its charter was voided, leaving Highlands as unincorporated again. In the 1930s Highlands had 20 businesses and its population decreased from 350 to 200.
