Goody Music Records, originally Goody Music Productions (GMP), was an Italian-American record label. It was one of the pioneer labels specializing in Italo Disco music. History It was founded by Jacques Fred Petrus & Mauro Malavasi in 1978 as Goody Music Productions (GMP). The same year they started a studio in Bologna and they produce their first record under Macho alias: "I'm A Man". Projects & Bands under this label were Macho, Revanche, Peter Jacques band & the most popular Change. In 1980, it launched 2 labels: Avangarde, which focuses on Progressive Rock & New Wave music, and Nocedicoco, which focuses on Reggae music. Nonetheless, these 2 existed for a year and a half. Jacques Fred Petrus
Jacques Fred Petrus (; February 22, 1948 – June 8, 1987) was a West Indian-born businessman and a pioneer of post-disco music. He spent much of his career in Italy and the United States. Early life Born in Guadeloupe in the French West Indies, Petrus worked as a diesel-engine mechanic on a cargo ship aged 15. He subsequently travelled to Paris following his interest for R&B and soul music, where he worked as a DJ at different clubs from 1968, including the jet-set nightclub Club Saint-Hilaire. In the early 1970s, he moved to Milan, Italy, and continued DJing at various clubs including Good Mood. In Bologna he met music student Mauro Malavasi, who became his working partner and main songwriter and producer, and together they formed a disco production company called Goody Music Productions (GMP), established a recording studio in Bologna, and created the Goody Music Records label. Mauro Malavasi
Mauro Malavasi (born 21 March 1957) is an Italian pianist, songwriter and producer. He was an important figure in Italian disco with his business partner Jacques Fred Petrus and went on to write and produce hits with various Italian musicians. He received a Pico Mirandola Award in his hometown in 2008. Macho (band)
Macho was an Italian-American disco/ R&B studio group. The Guadeloupe born French-Italian businessman Jacques Fred Petrus and Italian musician Mauro Malavasi, formed a joint production company, called Goody Music Production (GMP), in the mid-1970s. Their first project, in 1978, was called Macho, featuring Italian Marzio Vincenti as lead singer. Their only album was composed of three extended tracks. The band's sole chart success in the United States was an almost 18-minute-long disco cover version of the Spencer Davis Group's 1967 hit " I'm a Man", which was written by Steve Winwood. The track reached the Top 10 in the ''Billboard'' magazine's Dance chart in October 1978. An edited seven-minute version was also released. in 1980 they released the album, ''Macho II - Roll'', composed, arranged and conducted by Celso Valli, produced by Jacques Fred Petrus with all songs played by The Goody Music Orchestra. Change (band)
Change is an Italian-American post-disco group formed in Bologna, Italy, in 1979 by businessman and executive producer Jacques Fred Petrus (1948–1987) and Mauro Malavasi (born 1957). They were heavily influenced by the disco band Chic. The current incarnation of the group formed in 2018. Career Concept Change was initially formed in early 1979 as a studio band with a revolving stable of musicians, led by businessman and executive producer Jacques Fred Petrus, with the majority of songwriting and production carried out by Mauro Malavasi and Davide Romani. The band's dual Italian and American identity was a result of a production system in which the music, excepting the vocals, were written and recorded by Italian collaborators in studios such as Fonoprint Studios, Bologna, Italy. These backing tracks were then sent to the USA where vocals were added by American performers, before being mixed into finalised versions in major studios such as the Power Station in New York City. ...
