Goodricke College
Goodricke College is a college of the University of York. It was founded in 1968 and named after the astronomer John Goodricke. The college has approximately 1500 undergraduate members, of which some 500 live in college accommodation, and about 140 postgraduate members, of which most live in college accommodation. History Heslington West Goodricke College was opened in 1968 by Michael Swann and was the fifth college to be built. The opening of Goodricke is commemorated by a plaque on the outside of the Old Dining Hall - now part of James College. While Goodricke College was located on Heslington West, it had four accommodation blocks: A, B, C and D. Blocks A and B were standard university accommodation, built to the CLASP system, and situated near the main college ''Nucleus''. C-block and D-block were whitewashed brick buildings, considered to provide a lower quality of accommodation to A- and B-blocks. The Press (York)
''The Press'' is a local, daily, paid for, newspaper, for North and East Yorkshire. It is published in the City of York by Newsquest Media Group Ltd, a subsidiary of Gannett Company Inc. The ''Yorkshire Evening Press'' was established in 1882. It changed from broadsheet to compact format in 2004 and shortly afterwards dropped "Yorkshire" from the title. Morning printing began on 24 April 2006, and the paper was given its present name. William Wallace Hargrove printed at 9 Coney Street. Paper was delivered by barge along the River Ouse. Michael Woolfson
Michael Mark Woolfson (9 January 1927 – 23 December 2019) was a Great Britain, British physicist and Planetary Science, planetary scientist. His research interests were in the fields of x-ray crystallography, biophysics, colour vision and the formation of stars and planets. Academia He was educated at Jesus College, Oxford and received his PhD from UMIST, where he was supervised by Henry Lipson. He was a research assistant at UMIST 1950-52 and at Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, 1952–54. He was an ICI Fellow, University of Cambridge, 1954–55. At UMIST he was a lecturer, 1955–61, and a Reader, 1961–65. Between 1959–60, he went on sabbatical working as a consultant at IBM, White Plains. He was Professor of Theoretical Physics, 1965-94 University of York and head of the Department of Physics, 1982–87. He served as the first provost of Goodricke College between 1968 and 1972. Vanbrugh College
Vanbrugh College is one of the eleven colleges of the University of York. History It was opened in 1967 and is named after Sir John Vanbrugh, designer of Castle Howard. In 2013 'Green Vanbrugh' was established. This group was created to increase awareness of the environmental issues within the college and to promote involvement from college members. Buildings and services The College is home to the History and History of Art departments, Language and Linguistics and Music together with some 2100 undergraduates and 180 graduate students. James College
James College is a college at the University of York in the United Kingdom. It is known as the "Sports College" largely due to its prowess on the Sports field but also has a diversity of events that cater to all tastes. History James College is named after Lord James of Rusholme, the University of York's first vice-chancellor, and was built in several stages during the 1990s. Initially James was intended to be a postgraduate-only college, however the university began to rapidly expand in size, almost doubling in size from 4,300 to 8,500 students, in 1993, therefore it was decided that the college should become open to undergraduates.
