Bill Gooderham
Norman William Gooderham (12 May 1919 – 15 December 1979) was a Canadian sailor. He competed at the 1948 Summer Olympics in the Star class and at the 1952 Summer Olympics in the 6 meter category and finished seventh-eights. Gooderham trained at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club and later served as its president. George Horace Gooderham
George Horace Gooderham (April 18, 1868 – December 22, 1942) was a Canadian businessman and politician. From 1908 to 1919, he was a Conservative member in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, representing Toronto South and then Toronto Southwest. Life and career Born in Toronto, his father was George Gooderham Sr. (1830–1905), a prominent businessman, and his mother was Harriet Dean. He married Cora Maude Northrop. He worked in the business founded by his grandfather, William Gooderham, which was the Gooderham & Worts distillery. His brother, Albert Gooderham, also worked in the family business. Hector Gooderham
Hector Bransby Gooderham (11 October 1909 – 30 December 1977) was an eminent Episcopalian priest in the third quarter of the 20th Century. He was born on 11 October 1901 and educated at George Heriot's School, Edinburgh and the City's University. He was ordained in 1924 and began his career with a curacy at St. Mary's Cathedral, Glasgow after which he was appointed Rector of St John's, Selkirk. Subsequently, the incumbent at St Baldred's, North Berwick he was appointed Provost of St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh in 1949, a post he was to hold until 1956. Peter Olaf Gooderham CMG (born 29 July 1954) is a British diplomat, serving as International Director at the Ministry of Justice. He completed a BA in Politics and Economics at Newcastle University in 1975. After a brief period of working as a management trainee, Gooderham spent the period 1976–78 completing a PhD in Modern History at Bristol University. From 2004 to 2007 he was the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Director of the Middle East and North Africa Directorate, based in London. In that role he provided information to the House of Commons Select Committee on International Development on the work of the Quartet on the Middle East and Hamas. Gooderham was the United Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations at Geneva 2008–12. Gooderham And Worts
Gooderham and Worts, also known as Gooderham & Worts Limited, was a Canadian distiller of alcoholic beverages. It was once one of the largest distillers in Canada. The company was merged in 1926 with Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd., and the merged firm was eventually sold to Allied Lyons in 1987. The company's distillery facility on the Toronto waterfront was closed in the 1990s. The buildings, dating to the 1860s, were preserved and repurposed as an arts and entertainment district that is called the Distillery District. In 1998, the Gooderham and Worts Distillery was named one of the National Historic Sites of Canada. Early history The business was founded by James Worts and his brother-in-law, William Gooderham. The Gooderham Building, also known as the Flatiron Building, is an historic office building at 49 Wellington Street East in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the eastern edge of the city's Financial District (east of Yonge Street) in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood, wedged between Front Street and Wellington Street in Downtown Toronto, where they join up to form a triangular intersection. Completed in 1892, the red-brick edifice was an early example of a prominent flatiron building. The Gooderham Building is the focal point of one of Toronto's most iconic vistas: looking west down Front Street towards the building's prominent rounded corner, framed on the sides by the heritage commercial blocks along Front Street, and with the skyscrapers of the Financial District towering in the background. Highlands East is a township municipality located in Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada. History The township was incorporated in 2001 through the amalgamation of the former townships of Bancroft, Cardiff, Glamorgan, and Monmouth. Communities Cardiff is a former mining community; Bicroft and Dyno Mines opened in 1956 and closed several years later. The chief mineral being mined in Cardiff was uranium. Cardiff is located on Highway 118 between the towns of Bancroft and Haliburton. The Cardiff Elementary School is a small school.
