Good Together (album)
''Good Together'' is a 1989 album by English post-punk band A Certain Ratio (ACR). Though the band had signed to A&M Records in 1987, they lost the attention of the public as it was not until the summer of 1989 that new album arrived. When it did, the hoped for more accessible sound of the singles "The Big E" and "Backs To The Wall" failed to secure hits. A third single "Your Blue Eyes" appeared on an EP in 1990. Their next album, ''acr:mcr'', followed on A&M the next year. Due to the lack of success of both albums, the band left A&M shortly after. A Certain Ratio
A Certain Ratio (abbreviated as ACR) are an English post-punk band formed in 1977 in Flixton, Greater Manchester by Peter Terrell (guitar, electronics) and Simon Topping (vocals, trumpet), with additional members Jez Kerr (bass, vocals), Martin Moscrop (trumpet, guitar), Donald Johnson (drums), and Martha Tilson (vocals) joining soon after. Among the first white indie groups to draw heavy influence from funk as well as disco and Latin percussion, the band were among the first to debut on Tony Wilson's Factory Records in 1979 with "All Night Party," produced by Martin Hannett. During ACR's early years with Factory, they scored seven Top Ten U.K. independent releases, highlighted by "Flight" and "Waterline," and released five albums beginning with ''The Graveyard and the Ballroom'' (1979). Dance Rock
Dance-rock is a dance-infused genre of rock music. It is a post-disco genre connected with pop rock and post-punk with fewer rhythm and blues influences. It originated in the early 1980s, following the decline in popularity of both punk and disco. Examples of early dance-rock include Gina X's "No G.D.M.", Russ Ballard's "On the Rebound", artists such as Dinosaur L, Liquid Liquid and Polyrock, and the compilation album ''Disco Not Disco''. Definitions Michael Campbell, in his book ''Popular Music in America'', defines the genre as "post-punk/post-disco fusion". Campbell also cited Robert Christgau, who described dance-oriented rock (or DOR) as an umbrella term used by various DJs in the 1980s. However, AllMusic defines "dance-rock" as 1980s and 1990s music practiced by rock musicians, influenced by Philly soul, disco and funk, fusing those styles with rock and dance. Julian Mendelsohn is an Australian record producer, audio engineer and mixer. Early life After completing school in Australia, Mendelsohn moved to the United Kingdom. Force (A Certain Ratio Album)
''Force'' is the fifth studio album by English post-punk band A Certain Ratio, released in November 1986 by Factory Records. Stuart James co-produced the album with the band. It was recorded and mixed between July and August 1986 at Yello 2 Studios in Stockport. It is the first studio album by the band to feature saxophonist Tony Quigley and the final to feature keyboardist Andy Connell as a full-time member who left the band to concentrate on his work with the pop trio Swing Out Sister who had started to gain mainstream success around the time that this album was released. Corinne Drewery of Swing Out Sister provided additional vocals on the track "Bootsy". Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the production techniques of dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, cinema and literature. These communities produced independent record labels, visual art, multimedia performances and fanzines. A&M Records was an American record label founded as an independent company by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss in 1962. Due to the success of the discography A&M released, the label garnered interest and was acquired by PolyGram in 1989 and began distributing releases from Polydor Ltd. from the UK.
