''Good Sport'' is a 1931 American comedy film directed by Kenneth MacKenna and written by William Hurlbut. The film stars Linda Watkins, John Boles, Greta Nissen, Minna Gombell, Hedda Hopper and Alan Dinehart. The film was released on December 13, 1931, by Fox Film Corporation. Plot When her husband (Alan Dinehart) sails for a 3 month business trip in Europe, an unsophisticated wife (Linda Watkins) sublets a Manhattan apartment so she can occupy herself with shopping and the theater. While in the apartment, she discovers that it belongs to her husband's mistress (Greta Nissen), who has accompanied him to Europe. The plot then focuses on the adventures of Linda Watkins character, and as she try's to find love. Kenneth MacKenna
Kenneth MacKenna (born Leo Mielziner Jr.; August 19, 1899 – January 15, 1962) was an American actor and film director. Family MacKenna was born as Leo Mielziner Jr. in Canterbury, New Hampshire, to portrait artist Leo Mielziner (December 7, 1868 - August 11, 1935), the son of a prominent Reform rabbi (Moses Mielziner) and Ella Lane McKenna Friend (March 18, 1873 – February 2, 1968). Although Kenneth changed his name from Mielziner to MacKenna for stage purposes, it was taken from family roots. Ella's mother’s maiden name was Margaret A. McKenna, and Ella was also named McKenna. So it seemed natural for Leo, Jr., to take MacKenna as his stage surname, changing the spelling slightly. In Mary C. Louise Beavers (March 8, 1902 – October 26, 1962) was an American film and television actress. From the 1920s until 1960, she appeared in dozens of films and two hit television shows. She was most often cast in the roles of a maid, servant or slave. Early life Beavers was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to school teacher Ernestine (Monroe) Beavers and William M. Beavers, who was originally from Georgia. Due to her mother's illness, Louise and her parents moved to Pasadena, California. She graduated from Pasadena High School. After beginning her entertainment career as a chorus girl at the age of twelve, she became more well known for her roles in several Hollywood films. Christine Maple (born Christine Raphael; November 16, 1912 – January 13, 1947) was an American actress in the 1930s who appeared in Western films and serials. Biography Maple was born in Belle Plaine, Kansas. Her parents divorced and she lived with her mother who remarried and moved to Los Angeles. Maple competed in beauty pageants which led to her being offered a role in the short ''Fifty Million Husbands'' (1930). She became a controversial figure and was at one time committed to a sanatorium after an alleged nervous breakdown.
