Good Spells (EP)
''Good Spells'' is the fourth official extended play by the Christian pop punk band, Eleventyseven. The EP also marked the final release by the band as of their official disbandment on September 26, 2014. However in late 2016, the band reunited and released their next full-length album ''Rad Science'' in 2017. The title, "Good Spells", is a subtle reference or play at the word "Gospels", the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible. Background Within the first week of August 2013, the EP was first hinted at in an Instagram post where lead singer Matt Langston informed the public that the band was covering the hymn, "I Surrender All." On August 29, Langston revealed the album's cover art and release date (9.10.13) via Instagram and Tumblr. Eleventyseven
Eleventyseven (stylized eleventyseven) is an American pop punk band from Greenville, South Carolina which was formed in 2002. They chose the name "Eleventyseven" because "it's the one that looked cool the next morning". The band was originally signed to Flicker Records and released two albums with the label that charted on Christian music charts. After an independent streak, the band signed on to Sony Japan before returning to an independent status a year later. They continued to tour, self produce and release music independently until disbanding in September 2014. In late 2016, the band announced via social media that they have come back together to record a new album. They have since returned to independently touring and recording music while maintaining Eleventylife, a music-centric podcast where they frequently interview guests associated with different aspects of the music industry at large. "I Surrender All" is a Christian hymn, with words written by American art teacher and musician Judson W. Van DeVenter (1855–1939), who subsequently became a music minister and evangelist. It was put to music by Winfield S. Weeden (1847–1908), and published in 1896. Van DeVenter said of the inspiration for the text: Van DeVenter and inception of the hymn Judson Van DeVenter was born on a farm in Michigan in 1855. Following graduation from Hillsdale College, he became an art teacher and supervisor of art in the public schools of Sharon, Pennsylvania. Horatio Gates Spafford (October 20, 1828, Troy, New York – September 25, 1888, Jerusalem) was a prominent American lawyer and Presbyterian church elder. He is best known for penning the Christian hymn '' It Is Well With My Soul'' following a family tragedy in which his four daughters died aboard the S.S. ''Ville du Havre'' on a transatlantic voyage. Robert Robinson (Baptist)
Robert Robinson (27 September 1735 – 9 June 1790) was an English Dissenter, influential Baptist and scholar who made a lifelong study of the antiquity and history of Christian Baptism. "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" is a Christian hymn written by the pastor and hymnodist Robert Robinson, who penned the words in the year 1758 at the age of 22. "The Heavenly Vision", also known as "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" (the first line of its chorus), is a hymn written by Helen Howarth Lemmel. It was inspired by a tract entitled Focused', written by the missionary Isabella Lilias Trotter. The chorus is widely known, and has become a standard reprinted in many hymnals. Lemmel first published the hymn in England as a pamphlet in 1918, and then included it in a 1922 collection called ''Glad Songs''. It was included in a 1924 American collection entitled ''Gospel Truth in Song'' and was widely reprinted in other collections.
