Good Hope (also known as Goodhope or Norco-goodhope) was a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States, located on the east bank of the Mississippi River. It was located between the towns of New Sarpy and Norco before being annexed by Norco on September 5, 2000. The town has a total population of zero. New Sarpy is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,169 at the 2020 census. History In 1699, Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville and Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville discovered an indigenous Bayagoula settlement located near the Mississippi River intersection with a tributary in present-day New Sarpy. The site was named ''L’Anse aux Outardes'' or ''Bustard’s Cove''. In 1722 and 1723, French, German, and newly arrived settlers from French Canada were granted lands on the east bank of the Mississippi River and moved from west bank German Coast villages to establish the first east bank settlement at ''L’Anse aux Outardes'' or ''Bustard’s Cove''. David Butler (sculptor)
David Butler (1898–1997) was an African American sculptor and painter from Good Hope, Louisiana. His style is epitomized by kinetic sculptures made from recycled tin or wood, which he embellished with saturated colors and geometric patterns. His work is now in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the American Folk Art Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Early life Butler was the eldest of eight children. His father was a carpenter and his mother was a Baptist Missionary. Norco is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,984 at the 2020 census. The community is home to a major Shell petroleum refinery. The CDP's name is derived from the New Orleans Refining Company. Etymology The community of Norco was once called "Sellers," after a wealthy family there. In 1911, the land was purchased by an agent for Shell Oil, and the New Orleans Refining Company (NORCO) was established. The community's name was officially changed from Sellers to Norco sometime after 1926.
