Good Counsel GAA
Good Counsel GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Dublin, Ireland. The club is based in Drimnagh in the south of Dublin. History The club was formed in 1954. The club's most famous player was Kevin Moran. The 'Counsel', a thriving Gaelic Football, Hurling and Camogie club has served the South Dublin parish of Drimnagh and beyond for the past 50 years. Boasting a sizeable adult and juvenile membership, it can justifiably say that it is the biggest sporting club in the area, with approx. 800 members. There are boys and girls playing hurling, football and camogie from nursery up to minor level. The club is represented at intermediate hurling, senior camogie and at intermediate football level with junior teams in football, and camogie. It also has an ongoing commitment to a comprehensive coaching programme with the focus firmly fixed on the future. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Drimnagh
Drimnagh () is a suburb in Dublin, Ireland to the south of the city between Walkinstown, Crumlin and Inchicore, bordered by the Grand Canal to the north and east. Drimnagh is in postal district Dublin 12. History Early to mediaeval Drimnagh derives its name from the word ''druimneach'', or country with ridges. A neolithic settlement discovered and a funerary bowl found in a burial site. The site was demolished, but the bowl is on view in the National Museum. The lands of Drimnagh were taken from their Irish owners by Strongbow, who gave them to the Barnwell family, who had arrived in Ireland with Strongbow in 1167 and had settled in Berehaven in Munster. The people of Munster killed the family except for Hugh de Barnwell, and this youth was given Drimnagh as compensation. The lands and castle were considered safe, as they were relatively far away from the Irish strongholds in the Wicklow mountains. Kevin Moran (footballer)
Kevin Bernard Moran (born 29 April 1956) is an Irish former footballer who excelled at the top levels in two codes: Gaelic and the association brand. In Gaelic football, he is known for his time at senior level with the Dublin county team, winning two All-Ireland Senior Football Championships with them, and in association ball for his career with Manchester United and Ireland. In 1985 he became the first man to be sent off in an FA Cup Final. Moran grew up in Rialto, Dublin until his early teens, before he moved to the Long Mile Road in Walkinstown. While there, he attended James's Street CBS and Drimnagh Castle CBS where gaelic football was the dominant sport although soccer proved to be the sport he played on the streets while growing up. Ballyfermot () is a suburb town nw of the city aside Dublin, Ireland. Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels is a GAA club based in the Drimnagh-Ballyfermot area of Dublin. The club was formed following a merger between Good Counsel of Drimnagh and Liffey Gaels of Ballyfermot. History In March 2016, Liffey Gaels announced that they would be merging with Good Counsel for their upcoming Junior B Hurling Campaign. Lucan Sarsfields GAA
Lucan Sarsfields (Irish: ''Sáirséalaigh Leamhcáin'' ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Lucan, Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in 1886, making it one of the oldest GAA clubs in Dublin. Sarsfields were one of 16 teams which contested the Dublin Senior Championship in 1887. They were also involved in the Senior Championship of 1892, and the club has fielded Gaelic football, hurling and camogie teams ever since. Early success Lucan won the Intermediate Football League in the 1904–05 season. It is reported that they did this with the help of five players from Balbriggan. The story goes that in 1902 a team call Balbriggan Wanderers won the Intermediate League and then for some reason or other went out of existence in 1904. One of the players on that team was a man named Paddy Richardson, who was a fish merchant and regularly attended the Dublin market.
